I dont know what all those #s mean after the persons name.

I cannot beleive that i am quailfied for the runoffs having only raced 2 national events ( 4 races total)this year so far.
I finished 9th, and 10th out of 20 cars in phx, and was also a mid pack guy in texas finishing 23 and 24 out of 40 cars.

my qualifications of making the runoffs with this level of particiaption, and midpack performance diminishes those who have achieved, and participated much more than i have this season.
way too easy to qualify for the runoffs IMO.

I comment only because i think they are making it WAY to easy to qualify for the big show; an invitiation to the runoffs, should be earned, not just given out for showing up to a few events.

sorry if this is a hijack.

Currently you are not qualified. You must finish 4 National races AND have the required number of points. In this case 22. What Jim has so kindly posted, is only the points standings. It does show the number of National races, but it does not sort by number of races.

Here are all of the national points. One of the ways to qualify (everyone has to have 4 national finishes) is to have enough points, this year, to have finished in the top half of the national drivers last season or this season. Last season the mid point was 22 points. So, if you finish 4 and earn 22 points, you will be invited. It may seem easy to qualify, but look at the list of racers who don't qualify. If you qualify, you should consider entering, as it is a great event.

Last year, of course, you just had to finish 4 events. There were no points requirements.

Jim & Wheel, you both know I stood up at the National Convention and cried foul when this BS points system was announced. This points system keeps the two classes with highest car counts at a disadvantage.

Here is the break down of how many cars have completed 4 national races and would have been eligible last year and are not this year:

SM - 35
SRF - 24
T2 - 6
T3 - 4
T1 - 3
SSC - 2
FP - 2
FE - 1
F500 - 1

I am glad that the CRB and BoD in all of their infinite wisdom instituted a system that only effect 9 of the 25 classes. The data set they used to determine the points was skewed and I explained that to anyone who would listen, but since basic high school math is not a requirement to be on the BoD, we are led by a bunch of self serving ignoramuses.

The BoD is an elected body. The Runoffs requirements that they enacted were a result of their constituents calling and telling them that they wanted the Runoffs to be more like the old days. That is, fishguyaz's view of only the best of the best should be invited. So, they are not self serving. They are serving their constituents.
Like all elected bodies, they do not always vote the way that we, as individuals, would like them to vote. The only way to change their votes is to let your elected representative know that you are not happy with the way they voted.

Here is a list of how many competitors in each class that have raced a national and failed to earn any points:

SM - 139
SRF - 86
FC - 4
STU - 3
GT1 - 2
FV - 2
T2 - 2
FA - 2
FF - 1
FM - 1
FP - 1

So of the 25 National Classes in 14 of them you just have to show up and you are guaranteed national points. In another 9 of the classes you may have bad luck if actually 10 or more cars showed up one time. But in two of the classes there are 225 competitors that did not earn points and will be left out of the data set that will be used for next year unless this crude system in use now is re-evaluated.

I understand what you are saying, but you too fail to see that is NOT what they did. They made it harder for exactly 2 (two) classes to get into the runoffs. For any of the other 23 classes the requirement remains virtually the same, show up for 4 national races and you get to go to the runoffs. So please explain to me how they made it harder????

Mike
I think we see it pretty clearly :) My take is that the BOD tried to appease everyone. They wanted to get back closer to the good old days of the best of the best, while still inviting a fair amount of people. I think that was accomplished, but some SM and SRF drivers paid the price, we will see a drastic decrease in our entries in Sm, I am hoping we have at least 35.

My opinion is we need to clearly define what the Runoffs is supposed to be from 2011 forward.

If it is the best of the best that's fine, but the best of the best is only invite the Top 30SM /SRF, 20 FV and top 10 of every other class. But is that financially viable?

Something in the middle, like we have now or some variation....

Or invite everyone like last year, I didn't really see a down side from last years process. Its not like the 100th place guy came in and won or anything? Your still the "best" if you win(whatever that means), but now you get to hang out with a lot more friends in the process and make a much more fun week. For what it is worth, I would much rather hang around with guys from p11-p63 than the guys from p1-10, although they may not want to hang out with me :)

Yes, you are points qualified now. You need to run (and finish in any place) 3 more national races. At least one of those three still needs to be in the NE Div.

That's Meat's point. Except in a couple of class just showing up is good enough. In the more competitive divisions guys that should be in won't make it. Guys like you and me help pay the freight so the fast guys can run. The club needs to serve all members, not just the fast ones.

Drago makes a good point as to the sustainability given the popular classes will see a drop in car counts. That cost is going to be passed to the racers. There aren't TV deals or big sponsorship or a front gate take so in club racing we pay our own freight. My understanding was the rule was instituted due to the carnage last year but the issue was at the pointy end of the grid, not the middle and back. And those same guys are fast and will likely qualify again.

If big car counts are an issue there are other ways to approach it. Cap the class, slower cars need to race into the show or something like a 107% of pole or failure to maintain speed, too slow during the race and you get posted.

so what do all those numbers after my name mean?

i see my scca member # in there, otherwise it looks like some secret code.

let me rephrase my intial question.
having only done 2 national races in division, and 2 national races out of division, with midpack(9/20, 10/19, 23/41, 22/40) finishes in all races and only 4 national points; WHY is my name on that list above?
what did I do with those results to somehow be even eligable to go to the runoffs?

Josh, you have finished 4 national races, correct. That's point 1.

You have 2 finishes where you collected points. Once being 1 point with 10 bonus points added & the second time being 3 points with 10 bonus point being added you now have a total of 24 points. That's point 2.

You have aquired both points 1 & 2 of what Wheel said above for an inventation to the Runoffs.

EDIT:

Mike & Johnny you guys are way to fast for me, that's why I run regionals. :P

Four national races, two done with either foot in the air. Two in your division. Divisional races do not require you holding a foot in the air. Points equal to, but not overlapping the total of half of the previous year's total, with a coat hanger and tin foil, but not with your foot in the air. OK, pretty simple so far. Now it gets complicated....... Oh, nevermind.
