if you want to put the car in the money

In the money??? What f@#&ing races are you entering, where I run all they hand out is craptacular trophies.

Name something dumber than buying a $35,000 car to win a $4.00 trophy (assumes you can sell the trophy).

Well there's the problem Denny, when you 1.6 guys win  Don't they give you guys the $5000.00 checks with the $4 trophies? They do to all the 99 guys.

Any attempt to apply common sense or logic to our sport will result in the end of all participation. As one person said to me recently - "You're gonna be wearing a diaper and be drooling all over yourself in 20 years". "Go have some fun".

There are several 30-something cars that run in the regional classes in the NE.
And a couple of 50-somethings around, believe that!
It's a great track Danny, one of my favorites. Fast & technical without the long straights or elevation.
Perfect for a 1.6.

The ARRC's coming up and it looks like some prepped 1.6's will be there. nod nod, ;) ;)

Brian - Here's the first couple of laps from the feature race.
See ya again soon.

1 The section of the Forum that this thread is on is SCCA North-East. Kinda for North East guys and gals to express themselves.

2 All 1.8 cars were capable of picking up 10 HP or more this year with pressure regulator and timing allowances. If this is not correct, what are the correct numbers? Who knows what people are doing with cams.

3 99.9 percent of 1.6's have not moved forward this year.

4 Last year my measly 1.6 could run in the top 5 or 6 of SM cars locally at NH and even out pull several 99's. We had some great races. This year the car magically sucks in SM (or my driving is lots worse)

5 I have not been happy with this years SM2 because there are about a zillion classes merged together so it seems like a free for all. Hopefully this will become less of an issue if some SSM's come to the dark side.

6 I ran in SM instead of SM2 at Thunderbolt (first time there) and Watkins Glen due to the run order. We wanted to head home early. So we ran towards the rear but had fun anyway.

7 1.8's in SM need smaller restrictors to tighten up the class. Opening the fuel pressure regulator and timing was a mistake.

8 People that are running cheater ECU's suck.

9 People are cheating just to keep up with the cheaters.

10 The best way to achieve parity is to crush the top 3 cars at national events.

11 My wife and I met and spoke with the Lendrum's at Watkins Glen and they are FAST FAST and seemed like real people. I am sure there is lots of money in their cars sorting through components to make sure their cars are the best they can be....and they are the fast 1.6's. And they sure can drive.

12 The basic truth is that the people that professionally build cars need to push the envelope to draw in new buyers or existing ones that want to move up. Or work with someone of means that will support the business.

13 There seem to be more people entering SM that lack racing skills. They purchased fast cars but lack the ability to play nice in traffic. They have not had time to develop skills to drive in traffic. They may have racing experience in other classes but most classes do not have the traffic situations of Spec Miata. New comers should start with a medium spec car so they can learn at a slower pace before buying a rocket ship.

14 That's it. Rant over.

If memory serves me, I seem to recall seeing the same cars up front winning most of the NER races this season:

#70 (1.8)
#17 (1.6)
#01 (1.6)
#69 (99)
#63 (99)

I, on the other hand, seemed to have slowed significantly in my 99 this season relative to my competitors. I didn't do much to the car last winter nor plan to do much to it this winter.
