OK, well I just pulled the trigger on a clean '91 Civic Si ITA/H4 car. Fairly recent build with a good suspension (Koni/GC) and a very nice roll cage. The plan is to build it up like I described above for a CRX. It'll be getting a stock B16A2 along with header, intake, race exhaust, helical LSD, and also a rear disc brake conversion. Still researching final drives. Might get lighter wheels, too. That's pretty much it for now.

The Civic is a bit heavier than the CRX but there are ways that I can legally reduce weight if I think it's necessary. I don't plan on racing at the national level with this car (hence the stock motor). I figure it'll make for a fun, semi-cheap regional STL car. I expect this car to be pretty competitive here in the OR/NWR STL races where most of the competition are Spec Miatas.

New weights go in effect 3/31 if you hadnt see; I gained 90 lbs myself at 1.8l.

You can change the FD to which ever you want. The brakes can easily be upgraded to fix your issues there when you were comparing to the Miatas, I just added 11 inch Wilwoods.

I ran against some 99 SMs without their plates at Roebling RD and outside of the straights they gave me a run for my money. A lot of variables and Im not going to make excuses about it all but I should be a lot faster. My STL build is probably about a 7/10ths build out.

I will be at Roebling for the Double SARRC at the end of April, hope to see some of you there. CFR #59 STL Civic

So my car gains 80 lbs (from 2080 to 2160). That's actually good news for me. It's much easier to make weight in an EF Civic with 1.6L motor now. This makes me feel better about choosing the Civic over the CRX as it should handle better than the shorter-wheel base CRX (about 8 inches shorter). Plus, I'd have to add ballast to the CRX. I won't have to add any to the Civic. With driver, I expect my car to be about 2200 lbs at the end of a 30 minute race (starting with a full tank). I can replace the steel hood with a fiberglass one to get closer to min weight.

You won't see me at Roebling as I only race regionally in the northwest. But good luck in STL!

And thanks to MazdaRacers for letting two Honda guys* nerd out here! :duck:

*I flunked out of Spec Miata a few years ago but drove one at Lime Rock last year. Might do that again this year, too!
