So who is GL Regional champ?

Is there a multi-track rule in effect?

, John is the Champ, and rightly so, as I did not do two tracks. The rule is in effect.

John won, even though he feels he backed into this championship, he earned it! He did everything he needed to do to win including not putting a wheel wrong at a Track he was learning. Congrats again to John.

I do not think the series will be very tight next year, I think more will be eliminated from contention because of national points. I really wish that rule would go away, as nobody wants to win a championship because your competitors are eliminated on technicalities...

I have to disagree (surprize, surprize). National drivers have plenty of other opportunities for glory. How about the "little guys" get a shot without "overdogs" raining on their parade.

I feel the same way about the ARRC, drivers with national points should be excluded from winning the so called "regional Runoffs". But that's their sandbox, their rules.

Probably won't matter after next year - appears there will be no more regional/national in the SCCA (a good thing).

Let me see if I can clarify some of RCS rules without bringing out a bunch of discussion. The Regional Championship Series was put together to give the drivers who did not have aspirations for running National events, and going to the Runoffs, to have competition. If you want to be the Divisional Champion, run the Nationals. That used to be how you qualified for going to the Runoffs, by being in the top x places of your division running national events. I belie3ve that is still one way you can qualify, among several others. But we do not exclude national competition drivers from running and gathering points in the RCS. However, once they acquire 14 national points, they are ineligible for a RCS trophy. Or, if they compete in the Runoffs, they are ineligible. They, and we, have no way of knowing how they are going to perform in either the national points, or the RCS, so you can never exclude them. Before I got into competing, I heard that it was routine for national drivers that were running in a regional event, to pull into the pits on the last couple of laps so that they did not intefer with the outcome of the regional race. I have never seen that is SM, we are too competive.

There is a minimum number of RCS events you can compete in and still receive a trophy. This is done to encourage participation, and to make the competition more involved. It is possible, and occurs quite often, that one of the top four in points in a class, does not meet the minimum number of races. But they still occupy that position based on points.

There is a maximum number of events that can be counted toward points. This allows participants to drop a low finishing event where a mechanical, or something like an incident, causes them to finish poorly or have a DNF. It also allows for not haviong to do all of the events so that the rest of your life does not have to suffer (like for an anniversary).

At the request of some participants, the RCS Committee put in place a rule in 2012 also requiring participants to compete at a minimum of two tracks within the GLD. This again was done to encourage participation and competition since the division is down to four tracks, and several participants only compete at a single track. Again, this is a requirement to receive a trophy, not to be counted as a finishing position.

The rules are not perfect for all situations. And as someone noted, they are likely going to go through some drastic changes as the Majors program gets rolled out for 2014.

I'm only asking because it hasn't been announced as official, who is the 2012 GL RCS champ? (I'm asking JC, the official points keeper)

Points are final and posted at GLD site.

Both John Guthrie and Frank Todaro tied in points. Frank did not fulfill the requirements for the championship of racing at more than one GLD track. The official champion for 2012 is John Guthrie. Please check the GL site and confirm your spelling if your name is highlighted in gold you will be getting a trophy. Congrats to all trophy winners (and Frank.... Sorry no trophy but I can give you an * if you like)
