From my reading of this thread, you are discussing a choice for regional tire, correct?

Why would you not permit open tire? I am In the Great Lakes region, and we have had open tire for years. I think it is a good choice to allow racers to run what ever tire they have, there is no competitive advantage as the choices are available to everyone.

As long as SCCA and NASA are on two different tires, it helps keep the cost down and and encourage more racers to race SCCA.

So what is wrong with that?

Same ^ for regional racing in the CenDivison.

But with a lot of locals looking at going to the NASA "runoffs" at Miller next year,

Kyle, NASA "Nationals", SCCA "Runoffs".

Agree with this 1000%....makes it much more cost effective for us average racers running SCCA, ICSCC and now NASA....the 5 or 6 "national" guys here in the NW who want to head to California are going to be on Hoosiers anyway...do the right thing for the rest of us and just have an open tire regionally.....just my 2cents.

This is a democratic vote, and everyone can weigh in. I'll bet some of the national racers won't even weigh in and go with what everyone else chooses, as that has been the case in the past. If any significant amount of people voted for open, I would have followed with another email with a completely different set of questions. But since I already had a good handle on how people would vote, I chose a more expedtious route. BTW, results are confirming my educated guess. But it's not over yet. If you can get the numbers, it will go your way. But so far you're the only one who wants an open tire rule.

Bruce sent out an email yesterday. Looks like the decision is to match SCCA National (SM6 + H20).

I saw the same thing. It is done and I am sure Bruce will come on here and announce it and give more detail. The results as I understand it were very one sided. Please understand this is a very good thing for the class. This is a Spec(ish) class and keeping everyone on the same tire is better for the class and cheaper overall for the competitor. With an open tire, you could end up with a different tire for each track and I don't just mean a different brand of tire. We are already at the point that different tracks want different heat cycles so if you open it up to an open tire you now have more options which need to be tested. Bruce has done a great job of taking into account everyone's wants and desires in the past years and we have all had the opportunity to use up old Toyo's. If you still have Toyo's, you either bought them after the writing was on the wall, or they are so old they are not competitive in any way. ICSCC allowed the Hoosier last year, so buying a Toyo was an active choice.

Hey all, Yes, the vote was heavily one sided for a spec tire using the SM6 and H2O for 2013. There were a couple that wanted to keep Toyo for better budgeting accross Nasa/ICCSS races and there was one vote for open tires. Again, this was not a surprise to me based on my discussions.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. Jim has built a great program for Oregon region starting with the school weekend in March!

As I recall, for infractions like this, the supps say you have to wear your underwear on the OUTSIDE of your racing suit for the entire weekend.

I say no problem. There's nothing out there that says you can't run RR's. It's just that you will place DFL if anyone says anything. Actually I believe its DQ.

I really doubt anyone would notice if you didn't say anything. But then again, now that the cat's out of the bag, anybody who finishes the race behind you might take issue and rightfully so. Those in front of you could probably care less.

If someone pointed it out during qual my guess is either a DQ or loss of qual times. And might not be able to grid for the race without remedying it. Normally someone might not say anything. But if the question about the Ridge is in context of an Oregon Region sponsored race now that you've posted possible intent on the forum that makes it a pretty flagrant rules violation. Of course if it's a NWR sponsored race it all depends on NWR tire rules.

Randy, why do you care if you are ahead of him? It only matters if you are behind! As far as I am concerned someone could put bricks on their hubs if they are behind me. That is as long as they don't get in my way when I lap them. Of course assuming I have the ability to do so (humility remembered).

Might be a fun race starting from the back. I'd just like to run all The Ridge races this year regardless of sanctioning.....and would like to stay on Toyos if at all possible.....but I'll settle for Colangelo's penalty as long as I don't have to leave the motor home.

Early this year I had been asked by NWR organizers what was up with the OR SM tire rules? I told them to hold tight. Once Bruce announced the vote results, I forwarded this result to NWR. NWR tries very hard to stay in synch with OR, so you should expect the NWR SM tire rule to look exactly as Bruce wrote the OR rule.

Why not run STL? STL is a GCR class that specifically allows SM to run STL. STL is a free DOT tire class. The Supps only address SM, not STL, so my take is that for Regional events STL is any DOT tire.
