Guys
I just spoke at length with Rodney at Applachian tire... There are few changes in contingency.

First, all awarded tires MUST be claimed within 30 days.

Second and Very important.. Hoosier will ONLY award contingency tires in one class per weekend. So if you run Sm and say STL, even if you win all four races, you can only claim from one class, so pick your best results

After reading this a couple times, the following is confusing:

*Note: There must be a minimum of three (3) cars that start the race in your class in order to claim a 1st place award and a minimum of five (5) cars that start the race in your class to claim a 2nd place award. Tires will be awarded for a maximum of one official points paying race per day, and a maximum of two official points paying races per race weekend event (except SM).

What is the meaning of "(except SM)"?

This does not reference Super tour events, I assume that is the same as last year. they gave two tires all the way to 10th place.

Dave my reading of that is that only SM in Major events gets tires to 8th place. But what do I know.

PS and the runoffs is different in SM than the other classes.

Can someone confirm Hoosier will only pay one class per pay if we run SM and STL.

At a minimum they should distinguish someone who runs the same car in two classes vs. someone who has two cars and two classes. I am not sure why but it seams really unfair if you outfit two cars and compete in two classes that you should take the short stick for that.

I would recommend running BFG's in STL. In my experience they are faster and last longer than the Hoosier. And most importantly contingency is way better.

Hi Guys

trying to resolve a misunderstanding regarding contingency tire awards from the first two race weekends of the year
  • At Sebring Double Majors, I finished 1st and 2nd
  • At PBIR Double National, I finished 1st and 3rd

By what is written on the Hoosier website I calculate that to be 6 tires for Sebring and 2 tires for PBIR - a total of 8 tires - Anyone calculate that differently?????

Is it just me, as a back of the pack newbie, or is the contingency just a big scam. Tire company pays Organizers lots of money to make us buy overpriced tires and then pretends to "pay" racers in kind. A few to racers get some free swag but a lot less then they pay out and 99.9% get screwed on monopolistic pricing created buy the organizations that we pay to create and support. Sorry for the rant, but I go through this in all sorts of marginal sports group that want more participation and sponsors and TV time etc, but then limit any real competition from sponsors for a few dollars at the beginning of each season. I will buy the tire and race, but I will never like the people who pretend to "support" the sport and we will look for every reason to take our business elsewhere. Would any of really buy a Hoosier or Toyo tire for a street car or say anything nice about the company? We use their tires because we are forced to, not because they are the best. Is that really what this process intended? Is that best for them or the sport?

Seems that NASA an SCCA should create a basic spec ant then make everyone compete to win our business. The real spec should be $99 and then let capitalism and real competition produce the best tire for them and for us.

We are all worse off because of the collusion "on our behalf"

I suspect that's already what we are doing, but the magic price is about $150 rather than $99. Did you notice that we get special hoosier pricing?

Here is what I see. I believe Saturday was Super Tour, both were majors. Here is what is on Hoosiers site updated 1/16/13

Spec Miata Payout Schedule

National Event - (1st) 2 free tires, (2nd) 1 free tire

Major Event – (1st) 4 free tires, (2nd) 2 free tires, (3rd -– 8th) 1 free tire

At Sebring Double Majors, I finished 1st and 2nd = 6 tires ( I think the thought was majors were paid at normal National rate, but this doesn't seem like that is correct) are they offering 4 tires here instead of 6?

At PBIR Double National, I finished 1st and 3rd=2 tires

The Toyo contingency money before Hoosier took over was

$1450. per national event paying back to 10th place

$2400. per Super Sweep paying back to 10th place

What Hoosier gives back is Lame and I have to question how did they obtain the Spec tire rights with such a weak program. It certainly isn't because of the long wearing performance of the tire. H20 is Great though.

Tire was awarded according to the survey that will all filled out. MOST did not care about contingency and wanted a non shaved tire with trackside support. When people are not most people surveyed are not collecting contingency, they usually respond it is NOT important.

I started to ask how the payouts dropped during the course of the contract. I started to do the math on the different events last year, since Majors were no different than a double natioal there was no piper to pay. Now that Majors are nationwide the payouts had to come from somewhere so from what I can tell they (SCCA/Hoosier) reallocated a majority of the contingency money to the Majors.

The net effect in the SOW Div is we are allocated 28 less tires this year. Yippee for the Majors.

Maybe Hoosier just dropped its total allocation across the board. I couldn't calculate the total $ for SM because I have no idea how many total national races occurred last year.

Maybe Toyo will be competitive next time if the RR works out. All I know is that it is easier to get Toyo bucks in NASA than Hoosiers in SCCA.
