History 101...not to long ago the 99 car ran a 41mm restrictor. It did not take long for the 38mm restricted motor to start making the same power( as development has gotten better and better)The VVT motor will follow the same path IMO!
Ron you are spot on - its early days yet for the VVT, I suspect that there is a smaller restrictor in its future, but right now the cars look relatively equivalent, and the domination appears to be track dependent. At tracks where grunt is needed the VVT has an advantage, and at tracks where high speed 5th gear straights are prevalent, then the '99's and 1.6's have an advantage
But if Jim kicks our ass with the VVT at Road America this weekend, then I am sure there will be a movement to restrict the VVT. :-)

One side says if that is even possible.. I need to park it But you know I love the Sprints, I will race whatever gives me the best chance to win. I have to say, one thing that I dislike about the qualifying ( which is a very rare occurence). I dont really have the ability to race one car Saturday and one Sunday. If that were possible, I would certainly do that as I think the data would be very beneficial to all.
My gut tells me that the 03 car is capable of top five and my 00 is capable of winning, that is of course if the driver decides to show up this year . If the 03 car is able to pop out and pass a top 99 at the end of any of the three straights, I will be amazed.

Only bringing the '99 this weekend. At some tracks my 02 is better, and others the 99. For me Road America favors my '99

My rant....
How can the 90 car even be mentioned, the 99 makes more torque than most 90's horse power. I can't image what the 02 makes in torque, even if you get a 90 that has all it takes to win, who is going to do it. The 99 is beating my 90 now on all fronts and people in this forum are already talking about restricting the 02 because the beloved 99 might have to work harder to win. Just make all cars 99's, take the plate out and call it done.

Let data rule this argument! Jim or any of the top drivers winning or loosing doesn't mean anything, most have won in every year of car. Every engine builder should turn in dyno graphs from each year of car. Let the SMAC group view and make suggestions. I do not see that the engine builders would care as they all sell all varieties--they will make money either way. There is no way to make every engine package/car work at every track. I feel though opening up the 1.6 cars to running any year motor might help though..... How to enforce rules????????

This to 1.6 (and 94-97 ) owners is what would be called an inclusive post.
Thank you
David
Michael, maybe you would like to transfer this post to the "is there a long term plan of intergrating MX-5 into Spec Miata??" thread.

LOL, Mike is always posting eagerly anytime there is even a hint of punshing the vvt car LOL! post away Mikey!!! You never hear Mike suggest we should pull the RP's and go racing though??? He must feel the vvt suites his driving style
He also knows the only reason Jim won at Mid ohio was the VVT! Jim cant even finish a race at Mid ohio in a 00
Ok now back to the SM5 rants

Just want to add some facts...
My 03 car makes about 2.5-3 less Hp than my 00 and about 2.5-3 more Ft /lbs.. I built a VVT car for myself as I had to know and I have customers wanting them and want to see what we can or can't produce.
I went to Mid Ohio last year in a new 99 spare car, sat on pole and was on my way to a a similar finish to this years and the car misfired while leading by about 2-3 seconds early in the race.
My 2014 video is VERY boring, many have said I was cruising, peddling or managing the gap, I wasn't. Believe it or not, that is me trying If you see my hands and arms flailing around in a video, I am screwed as I can't drive fast that way. My fastest laps look easy and my "fast looking" laps are usually slow or with a very ill handling car.
My plan is to run to run both cars on the test day at the Sprints. Should have back to back track data and dyno data, and plan on giving it to the SMAC. I have a very good versions of both cars now, same car builder, same driver, same track in back to back sessions. I may even make available to whoever wants it.
