How hard is it to get a support race with these guys?

http://racer.com/scc...hedule-for-2014

Not too bad of tracks this year with TUDOR.

March 12-14, Rounds 1 & 2, Sebring International Raceway with TUDOR United SportsCar Championship

May 2-4, Rounds 3 & 4, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with TUDOR United SportsCar Championship

June 27-29, Round 5 & 6, Grand Prix of Houston with IndyCar Series

July 11-13, Rounds 7 & 8, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park with TUDOR United SportsCar Championship

August 8-10, Round 9 & 10, Road America with TUDOR United SportsCar Championship

Oct. 1-3, Rounds 11 & 12, Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with TUDOR United SportsCar Championship

I do think you need the photo op, sign, cap, t-shirt, local radio and TV.

If the circus is coming to town, do it right.

Jim said SM Nats, not all the classes, so if it's a race or a couple per weekend, why not tag along if the price is right (whatever that may be)

Maybe Mavtv will pick us up, get Daniels talking about us.

just saying.

I think TUDOR could be a decent support race for SM.

Interesting concept. I would rather see a series that is independent of the Majors weekends. The fee for a Majors is $60/car. We could create a SMNT on regional weekend or possibly as a support race on a pro weekend. We would get large fields with more track time at a lower entry fee. Heck, we could even get crazy and create SRF/SM National Tours since we are by far the largest fields on any particular weekend.

This idea looks pretty easy to do, since all we are doing is counting points and awarding a title to the races we already have available unless you went beyond an SCCA event.

I think the key would be getting the title sponsor or sponsors and put some money in it. In order to motivate nationwide travel there would have to be good money going to 8 to 10th place.

Sounds like something BFG might jump too maybe along with some others. Danny this would be good marketing exposure and you could photagraph some of the more attractive drivers.

If I was forced to race at COTA for free and they only were willing to pay for my mileage or something, IDK, I'd really have to think about it. :)

Basic idea,

The group of cars, however big are like the Blue Angles at each event, best of the best. If you can't get some to show, you go down the pts list.

This promotes being high in points to be invited, have to keep racing all the time.

SCCA has there booth in the poddock explaining how "you too can race" just like that.

The race is about to start, the SCCA promoter comes on, explaining the class and how "you too can do this".

Ride alongs during slow parts of the weekend, giving stiffy's to some who never have and giving them info on how to sign up, get lic, etc.

SCCA's marketing the best and you get to race.

Just a thought,

J~

I think I am VERY nearing the end of my SM volunteering and usefullness :) I like the concept as well and should be a relatively easy program if run within the majors as proposed. We floated it a few times before but it needs someone that REALLY wants to push it and has the time energy and know how to do it. I would not mind helping, but I dont want to be the  "guy", I am too busy cashing all my CRB checks to add another lucrative income such as this :) I have a pretty good feeling I would end up funding a big portion or all of it for a year or so :)

Jim,

I like your idea and think, like you, it wouldn't be terribly hard to implement inside the SCCA's Major's program.  I think Mike Ross said it above.  In the early days of SM, before national days, the SOWDIV had the Wheels America series which sounds similar to your idea.

This series was sponsored by Bob Stretch's company, Wheels America (aka Fixrim.com) and provided contingency for each race and series championship.  The series was organized by volunteer SMers that scheduled races across BOTH SCCA and NASA.  Participation in the series was voluntary.  I think it had a small yearly fee and of course requirement for decal placement on your car.  So almost every SM racer participated as random drawings were even held for prizes.

The series basically let those organizations (SCCA/NASA) do all the hard work, track scheduling, insurance, etc, while racing series just designated which were Wheels America points races.  The series would tabulate its own points (using its own formula), handle its own tech (on top of any required by the hosting club) and not interfere or burden the organizers in any way.
