Tangent alert: Kyle makes an interesting point. When Soylent Green or Green Savoree or whoever bought Mid-Ohio FOUR YEARS AGO I thought that we'd see some much needed updating. That place hasn't changed since Trueman bought it in '81.

 

Yep - I've heard the EPA angle for years - don't know how accurate it is. I agree that the economics wouldn't make sense - that applies to a lot of race tracks.

 

On the other hand done right NL could be rented as a test facility.

As far as the EPA and the tires,the tires can stay as long as there are cars being raced there. If the cars stop and only bikes are racing there the tires will have to go,don't ask me why but that's what they said.

As for the person I'm talking to he has plenty of money and when I say plenty I mean plenty. He also has cars and teams in almost every racing series out there and could use the place as a tax write off !

old tires need to removed and new tires need to be installed 

 

We get rid of tires here all the time Rumpke trash service takes them for around $2 each...

 

I would think you could get those tires removed cheaper than that in the quantity that is on premisis

Someone said at one point there is over 1 million tires on sites...   Maybe we can throw them in local dumpsters one at a time....

Rumpke takes them to recycle load up a few semis and haul them to the recycler.  surely someone that is supposedly smart like you can finger something out...

Unless some group can come up with the money no township/town/ or whatever you crazy Ohio people live in can afford to fix the tire problem alone..   1-2 million plus I am sure would break a town the size of Nelson..   If the state were to setup in maybe...

 

We just need to run all the cars a little higher.......

I still remember seeing Brian Post flip his SM in 5-6 turn, just a couple of tenths behind my son Shawn.  It was ugly, but good news was Brian was unhurt but the car was totaled. He never came back to racing if my memory is correct.

I am vehemently oppose to tax dollars supporting ANY sports venue.

Mike Tyson use to live just down the road from NL. Maybe he's Kuch's investor.

Brian's crash was caused by a Honda S2000 that spun right in front of him. Brian's tires got cought up with the tires on the S2000 causing the car to jump in the air and start flipping it had nothing to do with the track. Your son and I where battling and I think I have it on video.

I think Iron Mike is broke.  Maybe someone like Chip Ganassi who doesn't live all too far away and drove at Nelson when he ran a FF.

Love the Ledges! Been racing there since my drivers school in the 70's. Yes it needs the improvements many have mentioned. My biggest car damaging incident was caused by a gravel trap at another track. MANY cars have been saved by those "launching ramp" tires at Nelson!

One of the challenges of racing at Nelson is the penalty you pay for getting too greedy in your personal talent assessment. This track demands respect.

I raced there in the 70's and 80's (first SCCA school in '78!) anyway, it's  in a great loc.  But those I know says some $$$ to make it "competitive" I'd go back...just for oldtimes sake.
