FYI as of tonight, there are 62 cars signed up. the wait list starts at 65, so if your thinking about it, i would pull the trigger, you can pay later.
That's funny because I signed up about 3 weeks ago and i just checked now and I'm not on there and now someone has my number. So I went back to check my account and it said it's not completed until I make the payment.
WTF ?
Ps the only reason I didn't pay is because my son is taking the driving school at Waterford and I have to make sure the car makes it through the weekend !
Kuch there must be another reason as I have not paid yet either, did you renew your membership because it will not let you register if your membership is not current. Check that, if that is not it PM me and i will look into it. They would not let Murdick register till he got his renewal.

Maybe that's it.
But it's strange that it let me register for the driving school and not the race on the same website !
Just don't leave Thursday night before the race weekend even starts!

I am sure I can look this up in the GCR, but I am sure one of you guys know a much simpler answer. What 'are' the rules being that this event seems to be 'sold out' in SM? I have been doing this for over 10 years now and don't think I have ever seen 70+ cars on the track at one time. Will there be some that have to go home based upon Qualifying or Something else? Just more curious than anything, hoping that I will not have to worry about that situation. Thanks!
Lets go for an "A" and "B" main

6.4.3. Qualifying for Oversubscribed Classes
When the number of cars entered into a single class race group exceeds
the maximum number of cars per mile, the following qualifying procedures
apply:
A. The class is split into 2 qualifying groups.
B. The grid is determined according to 6.4.2.
C. Alternatively, if the Race Director or Chief Steward determines that
track conditions are significantly different for the 2 groups, he may
recommend the parallel column procedure in which one half of the
race grid is taken from each session, and gridded in columns by
group, by time. The fastest car is assigned the inside position on
the front row and he is followed in that column by the cars from
his session in qualifying time order. The SOM must approve this
alternate procedure.
And 6.4.2- Establishing the Grid
B. The Chief Timer certifies official qualifying times to determine race
grid positions. Cars are positioned on the race grid in order of their
official qualifying times without regard to engine displacement or
class, with the fastest cars at the head of the grid. Any other
method of determining starting positions must be described in the
Supplemental Regulations and approved by SCCA.
C. Qualifying time ties are broken by comparing the second fastest
times, and then the third, if needed, and so on until a difference is
found.
D. The fastest qualifier may select the inside front row position (in the
direction of the first turn) or the outside. If he does not choose,
the pole position is presumed to be the inside. If he selects the
outside position, the second qualifier is assigned the inside, the
third outside, the fourth inside, and so on throughout the entire
grid.
E. Each driver/car combination must qualify within 120% of the qualifying
time of the fastest qualifier in his class to be allowed to
start his race. The Race Director or Chief Steward may waive this
requirement and may allow non-qualifiers to grid behind qualifiers.
F. Cars that are not in position on the grid prior to the 1 minute signal
relinquish their starting positions. They will be held behind other
cars, and must start from the back of the field.
SInce I am too lazy to look it up; Jim shows how the grid is filed for the race, but do the slow cars not get to race?
Assuming the track max is 70 cars and 80 show up. Is practice divided between 2 groups of 40? Then each subsequent qualifying session divided based on top 40 and bottom 40? Or do the groups remain consistent? Is the session time divided in half? Or does each group get the full session time? How will other groups be effected? What happens to qualifiers 71-80?
I am not trying to be a PITA. But based on the Schiefflers problem at Atlanta, it would be nice if everyone knows the procedure prior to the event. Officials, be transparent and let everyone know the rules.

Three race groups to date have issues compared to 65 (if that's max) cars on track.
SM 71
STL 75 six classes
Prod 94 four classes
Per Eric Prill on the prod site
"I haven't posted anything here because everything that needs to be said at this stage has been said - that the schedule change will come in Mid-April. As we all see here, there are plenty of opinions as to how it should be done. I have mine as well. Remember, with 9 weeks to go, for some racers, registering for this event is not even on their radar yet.
Per the GCR, this is a decision for the staff-appointed Race Director with agreement from the organizing Region.
The Majors series is managed by staff. Events are owned and managed by the Regions. I cannot wave my hand and change things that I don't control. It needs to happen through the specified channels, which represent each entity. As Butch can attest, sometimes the series and the region have differing opinions on how things should happen and they need to reach a compromise. Whether this is the case or not, we have good people working on it and I have faith that a fair and appropriate solution will be reached.
Like many here, I have offered my feedback and it will be up to the process to make the changes. I'm not concerned, neither as an entered driver in a 94-car group nor as SCCA/Majors staff.
I AM excited, though. :)"

My guess is this will sort itself out..
-Many registered to hold a spot and may not come
- sadly a few will destroy their cars on test day showing the world how they are going to win the runoffs in a few months
- a few guys wives will pull the plug on their hubbies
- and so on

Dave and all. My understanding is that they have announced 65 is the set # that can start, Then anyone qualified 66 and lower will not start the race. The GCR limit is 25 cars per mile. That computes to 60 cars. I'm not saying this, but if I had never been there, I'd be looking at a test day or a regional before I took on the locals and a Majors field. Mid Ohio favors someone who has lots of track time.
BUT--- the Series Director can change the rules so who knows. That quote from Eric P was to the production guys who have 95 cars in their group.
Ok one of the benefits of being a member of Mazda Racers is you get it here first.
Registration for the Mid Ohio Major has not yet been announced but the link is active. We are expecting to sell out our class so if you want to go i would register. You do not have to pay at the time of registration.
I will post more information as we get a bit closer but the link to register is
https://www.motorspo...80#.VuBjouaSIrg
I am told there will be an all day test and tune sponsored by Mid Ohio and a twilight test and tune. from 5pm to 8pm Thursday night.
I will post links when they are available.
It dun runneth over.

Bring a lawn mower. Every inch of potential paddock space will be necessary.
I will bring my Grill and firewood too. They are going to have some system for parking, I will be going to a meeting this week and will update the thread.
I think we should get all the SM guys to park together. Lets make this fun for a change.
Maybe if the weather permits, I will buy a keg.
