Not accurate at all.  A good 1.6 can be had for that for sure. But I believe one that would be required to win the Runoffs will be a purpose new build car like what most all of us have built in NB cars. Not buy an existing car and fix it up. At least I would not want to start that way. Building a 1.6 like should be built if the goal is to win the Runoffs is easily 35k

Agreed a new build would be 35k or more. Also agree starting with junk is not the way to go. I was just trying to say if you had spent 35k a few years back and pulled it out of the garage now I doubt you would get anywhere near what an equivalently built 99+ used car would bring. Maybe I am wrong, maybe there are not any good 1.6's for sale or maybe people who are serious don't want a 1.6.

I agree with that. I think it would be a struggle to get over 15k for a very good 1.6 car. 

My comment was only in costs of building/prepping a car to the level of winning the Runoffs

99% of the costs are the same for every year; roll cage, seat, belts, wheels, tires, springs, shocks, sway bars, bushings, trans, clutch etc. Assuming you start out with equal condition donors, any year built to the same quality will be pretty darn close to the same price. 1.6 cars are older and generally need some extra TLC to make them equal. They are also more finicky on set up and tuning. But the build cost is the same +/- $1500
