At A Glance: NOLA Hoosier Super Tour

medium.jpg?1488474930

Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour
March 4-5: NOLA Motorsports Park -- Avondale, Louisiana

Storylines/Things to Watch:
Back to the Track – It’s been more than a month since the very first Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour event was held January 13-15 at the historic Sebring International Raceway. The premier U.S. amateur road racing series is now back in action March 4-5 at the 16-turn, 2.75-mile NOLA Motorsports Park just southwest of New Orleans in Louisiana. This will be the second of 11 race weekends that make up the 2017 Hoosier SCCA Super Tour.

A Texas Invasion -- Of the more than 220 entries for this weekend’s Hoosier Super Tour at NOLA Motorsports Park, almost a third are coming from Texas for the event hosted by the SCCA’s Houston Region. Florida, too, has a strong contingent planning to compete. There are even drivers that have travelled from as far away as Washington, Minnesota and Massachusetts.

The Joint will be Jumpin’ -- With six groups scheduled for racing Saturday and Sunday, there will be no shortage of exciting on-track sports car action at NOLA Motorsports Park for this second stop of the Hoosier SCCA Super Tour. Also going on this weekend on the kart track at the venue will be the Superkarts! USA inaugural running of the Pro Tour WinterNationals. It’s a great opportunity get a glimpse at some future SCCA competitors!

What Weather? – The forecast for New Orleans this weekend shows temperatures in the 70s with only a slight chance of rain. However, this is Southern Louisiana. It’s certainly not uncommon for that forecast to change on a dime, so everyone in attendance should be prepared for a little water from the sky, which also means some H2O buildup around toes. Boots and raincoats might be wise to have on hand.

Event/Circuit:
Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour
Round 2 of 11 - Races 3 and 4 of 22
NOLA Motorsports Park: 16-turn, 2.75-mile circuit

Practice:
Five Groups: 15-min. sessions Saturday morning

Qualifying:
Six Groups
Saturday: 20-min. morning qualifying sessions
Sunday: 20-min. morning qualifying sessions

Races:

Saturday: 25-min. afternoon races
Sunday: 18-lap or 35-min. late morning and afternoon races

Live Timing and Notes:
Live Timing & Scoring, lap notes, live video, Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire and more via the SCCA® Pit Board available through www.scca.com/live.

Exactly

Congratulations to Chris on another Nola win with Michael and Selin rounding out the podium. Justin and Preston also in the 5 car break away pack. I got a nice seat to watch some really good racing. The front pack was mixing it up and on the limit. I watched Danny and Taylor Ferranti( another very good driver that only Texans are aware of ) go side by side through the esses. I thought Danny had him, but Taylor kept his foot in it on the outside and Danny gave him room and Taylor held the position. That was bad ass. Stearns and Blake had a great race as well.
As for me, I love going to Nola, have been extremely fast there and had high hopes for the weekend, but I don't think that place likes me very much. We will try again next year. The car was great and has been great for a long time, thanks to my guys as the car is an absolute pleasure to drive, the guys work hard to make it that way and it is appreciated. Had a great time all weekend with the usually cast of characters.. As I have said countless times, the off track stuff is way more fun than on.. the racing is just a common thread to join a bunch of good people.

I'm off to San Juan, good luck to all today

I could bore you all with a book report but it was another fun weekend at NOLA.  X-Factor showed well, as usual I was the lesser of our Team Factory Drivers.  Chris was incredible, he jumps through hoops to make his team go.  I wanted to drive the 99 and not the VVT at NOLA and I also wanted him in a 99 so I could see where I was compared to him.  So he took a older SM and refurbished it into a Super Tour winning car in 8 days!!!! He didn't have time to order and install a new seat so he went with the seat in the car even though it did not fit him well. He was puling belts so tight it hurt to watch.  All he does is put the car on pole on Saturday and win the race.  Sunday we tried to game the qual system a little and put me on pole with him 3rd but it didn't work as Michael Carter pulled out the fast lap of the weekend by over .3 so we started day 2 in P2 and P4.

Had a great time seeing everyone, like Jim said earlier, the best part is the paddock banter and fun, the racing is just what brings us together.

Shout out to our sponsors, X-Factor Racing, TPR Consulting, G-Loc.  We are getting closer to our dream of having an SM Super Tour, now if they would just space out some of the dates and rotate tracks we would be golden.

It is very hard to go race NOLA pack up and turn around an haul to Road Atlanta 4 days later.  For some people that is just going back home but for us it would require non-stop driving and car prep.   Same thing happens again with COTA, Hallett and VIR.  Three races in 4 weekends across the country.  From my house the drives for the 3 tracks would be 360, 1100 and 2400 miles.  That would be 70 hours of towing over 23 days.  Just can't happen. :(

Not sure where will be next.

NOLA Hoosier Super Tour was a great race weekend for Spec Miata,

Huge congratulations to all the drivers who raced hard and clean. We had a very competitive and well populated field and only a few incidents, which is setting a good example.  Hopefully everything that did happen was another learning experience, and not just an unresolved conflict..

Selin, Carter, Haldeman, P$, Danny, Tyler, Ross etc all were super fast and consistent and it just goes to show how talented this field is when we look at lap times throughout a race.  I was hoping to at least podium but both of the finishes were satisfying as we made very few mistakes.  My car and I were great in places that didn't invite opportunity, but I think I left knowing what I would focus on for the 3rd day.

The coolest/raciest moment of my weekend was when I decided to go for a late pass on Carter in T4, and ran him wide, and even though I had a half car on him going into 5 he still held it, and held it through 6.  His Rossini Teammate pushed him by and got by as well.  This dude can race, doesn't give up, and left it up to me to not screw up.

I will be posting video tonight.  P.S Ross your are super relaxed and your car looks like a pleasure to drive in that video despite what the body panels look like.  :)

That Rossini team mate would be me, and just so you know, Justin, I felt really bad pushing Michael past you, but the fact that you guys were two wide through three consecutive corners is what allowed me to get the run and push us both by. Unfortunately my fuel pump started to quit (2nd one of the weekend) and I faded fast. Really had a blast running with you and Taylor (the rest of the guys I see every race weekend so its always good to mix it up with new drivers)

JR, he is very relaxed. I understand he had sun glasses on, BUT, try to get him to bring the helmet down for true eye protection. Or Michael, do I need to find the video of the Corvette driver trying to cover his eyes because his visor was up when something broke the windshield.

Its a horrible bad habit.  I need a new visor since mine is scratched but it should be down.

Yeah that car is butter.  So easy to drive, you feel everything and you can catch just about anything since it lets you know early.  Sometimes i think these things are like horses.
