Racers and track-day enthusiasts have one place to go to purchase pre-owned, 4th generation Global Mazda MX-5 Cup cars. Long Road Racing, official Mazda business partner and exclusive builder of these factory-supported race cars now hosts this pre-owned marketplace on its website.

These pre-owned Global MX-5 Cup cars deemed the “best value in sports car racing,” feature the SKYACTIV-G 155-HP engine, FIA-approved roll cages, fully-adjustable racing suspension and various options. The race cars are featured in the Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires as a part of the Mazda Road to 24 ladder system. Additionally, these cars are raced in Pirelli World Challenge and grassroots racing series including SCCA, NASA, AER and WRL. These professionally-built and maintained race cars will make great vehicles for racing as well as for track days and high-performance driving education.

It is expected that there will be more first-generation (2016-2018) Global MX-5 Cup cars for sale since the 2019 Global MX-5 Cup race series will feature a new 2019 Global MX-5 Cup race car and its upgraded 181-horsepower powerplant. Information to purchase first-generation Global MX-5 Cup cars can be found at www.longroadracing.com/home/marketplace. If you would like to list your first-generation Global MX-5 Cup car for sale, contact Long Road Racing at (980) 223-8547 or info@longroadracing.com.

Long Road Racing, headquartered in Statesville, NC is a race car design, fabrication and build company specializing in sports car road racing. Teams have been told that Mazda will run two classes next year, ND1 for 2016 cars, ND2 for 2019 and upgraded 2016 cars.

Does this mean there will be TWO Master Class winners too?  And they say us millennials like participation trophies ... lol

Probably. Not a lot of people happy about running two classes nor the cost of an upgrade.

$29k for a prepped NC car? Will this finally force inflated '99 SM prices down?

I assume you mean a ND?

And your hypothesis assumes that NB’s are priced high, when in fact they simply are good at maintaining value, which is great for our class. This means you can build a great 99 and 5 years later it will still be worth 60-70% of its initial cost, which is far better than my street car(s) which have each lost around $10K a year in value.

From a depreciation point of view, SM in both NA or NB variants, are close to the best performers in road racing. If you buy a used car, 2-3 years later (assuming you look after it), it will still be worth more than 80% of what you paid for it.

Regardless, the first generation ND race cars are going to plummet in value unless Mazda can find an inexpensive way to upgrade them to 2nd generation. Could be fun track day cars. But I doubt enough of them will come on the market to generate their own well subscribed class in NASA or SCCA.

The price of 29 K includes 5 k towards Spec MX5 fees. So if I am reading correctly the price of the Car is more like 24k . Also you are getting a lot for the money, including data, camera, fire system and transponder. That alone takes the car to 20-21K. Not a bad deal since a new Spec Miata build will cost cose to that with free labor. ( Meaning a DIY er at home) . Granted there is wear and tear on the car, but originally these cost in excess of 50k ? Overall if someone was looking at options I think the Spec MX5 series is clearly trying to attract. Just depends where and what you want to spend your disposable dollars on.

A ND1 with the conversion kit will be less expensive than a 2019, so I don't think the prices will drop as much as you might think, but time will tell for certain.

No I meant NC in regards to the link to Spec MX5 cars for sale, not the link to the global cars at the top.

Sure NA and NB cars are good at keeping value, but $25k for a 20 year old car is kind of ridiculous. Although I suppose the used car market itself is partially to blame. I did a quick search and I could find '99s for $7k, and '09s for the same price which is kind of crazy.

Although if SM moved forward to Spec MX5 in the future I would have a hard time changing unless the car ended up with a hard top. Open top convertible race cars look like ass.

I think you are mixing fully prepped race cars and street car values.

The 99' SM is proven national championship race winning formula in the largest class in amateur racing. It costs more than 25k to build a championship car.  So why is it absurd that it sells for 25k.  The other classes of cars you are talking about have much lower subscriptions and therefore the demand for used race cars is lower.

Throw out the street value of the cars as an indicator of value of the race car.  It that were any indicator of value the NA's would be worth more than the NBs.  They sell for more in today's world.  I have been looking for a 1-2k NA car and they don't exist anymore.  Its $4,500+ for those cars in running condition.  We can still get beater 99's in the 2k range if you shop long enough.

NC's are starting to creep into the same price range of NAs.  I have an NC that we paid 6 k for and it runs and drives great.

Well a 99 SM might be the first racing item in history to not lose any value after being built. It's extremely unusual. The NA cars being $15k cheaper also make it appear to be over valued, but in the end I'm a cheap budget racer and that's the biggest reason.

I have no idea what you are talking about. NA’s are $15k cheaper than 99’s? All I had to do is jump over to the classified section to find this:

https://mazdaracers.com/classifieds/

An apparently well prepared NA for $15K and three 99’s ranging from $17K to $19K. Your math is wacky. On the other hand if anyone wants to buy my 99 for $25K, please let me know.

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way that I am spending $15k for an NA. On the east coast, good 1.6 and NA cars are worth 10k Maximum, and that's if they are super fast and in good condition. Most don't sell unless they are in 7k range. Unless proven otherwise, California and west coast guys are the only ones selling them for that much.
