That's good to know and goes a long towards explaining the sloppy downshifts on our street 2. I had been thinking that e-throttle was just laggy as heck.

Well, I just picked up a Mazda2 Sport. Great little car. I love it. For now, it's my daily driver and this season's autocross car. But it really needs a firmer suspension.

Any word on when the B-Spec rules will come out?

The suspension kit for the B spec 2 is available from Mazdaspeed right now, it's around 850.00.

Does it come with a reflash for the drive by wire? Why would we race any FWD that you cant dance on both pedals? Pass for now. MM

I've kept an eye on Mazdaspeed...still nothing about a b-spec package for the 2!

I've had my Mazda2 long enough now to play with it and learn more about it. I'll be autocrossing it this weekend.

Here's what I've learned from experimenting with the car:

1. Brake override can't be disabled like Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) can. There's a switch to turn DSC off. Maybe a reflash can get rid of brake override but in stock trim, as far as I can tell, it can't be disabled.

2. Brake override will prevent you from braking with the left foot while using your right foot to manipulate the throttle (in a typical left-foot braking scenario). As you press the brake, any gas pedal input appears to be ignored.

3. Brake override does not engage if the clutch pedal is pushed in. So heel-and-toe downshifting is possible and works like any other manual transmission car. The brake and gas pedals could be positioned better to facilitate heel-and-toe downshifting. Maybe I just need more practice.

Anyway, that's been my experience so far. Hope that helps.

I just turned 1000 miles in the car and it has been a blast to drive. Somebody said it was like a FWD Miata and I have to agree with that.

Look for the B Spec cars to be classified in the next Fastrack.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. SCCA has been so slow and dropped the ball here. We have committed to the Chumpcar, SCCA ITB, and SM for this year. We may get into it after it plays out a bit.
There will be a bunch of new cars brought out to fit into this class also. IMHO. MM

No problem. I don't mind sharing what little I know, haha.

I wouldn't blame the SCCA (or NASA). They're not making the rules for this class. Mazda, Honda, and other manufacturers are. My understanding is that's where the hold up is.
