Sunday was a brand new day, we were feeling cocky and felt we could get in the top 25. Highlights from Saturday were watching the kids gain confidence and grow and seeing my wife get out braked by this
Joey started and in the first hour of the 2nd day we got up to 41st. He was fast and confident he battled most of his stint with the eventual 3rd place finishing Porsche 944. Towards the end of his stint he got forced of by a slower car, he got blacked flagged and didn't see it. When he did and came in we got the painter penalty and had to repaint the back trunk lid
Lemons has strict rules on dropping wheels off the track and 4 wheels off. Stike 1 you must change drivers which happened to us on Saturday. Strike 2 a more creative penalty, like this painting penalty. Strike 3 an even more creative penalty that takes more time....Strike 4 you run the risk of being banned for ever!!! The finished product was a mess, but the whole team tried to paint the best we could with the crappy tools!
Unfortunatley this was the begininng of the end for us. Both kids drove well but a little too agressive. With 2 hours to go we had another off course and we parked it to not get the death penalty.
All and all a great weekend. If you don't take it too seriously as it is not real racing it can be a ton of fun....It was a great first race and my kids learned some valuable lessons.... got a ton of track experience they probably made over 200 passes each and I am not kidding....they had a great introduction to racing.... they now want to go spec miata racing so things get much more serious!
They will get their licenses this spring and attempt the TEEN MAZDA CHALLENGE, which is a great way to go for young drivers.
