Most don't want to spend $$$, RP and ballast are cheap
Jim
Now that I've raced 4 years in SM at the regional level I think I am starting to understand the game. I'll just wait until January first and check the forums to see how much I have to spend to either make my car legal again or try to keep it somewhat competitive.

Based my non-scientific observations. You almost never see a cheap/budget built 99 car. Almost all 99s are pro built. But you see a lot of "garage built" cut every corner possible 1.6 cars. I make no staement as to why, I am just pointing out an observation.

You lost me... Was your car legal last year? If it was then you change your restrictor plate and add some ballast and your still legal.

Not for Hamilton he does not have a 99up it is either a 1.6 or 1.8, not sure which. So RP maybe and Ballast for sure.

Whether it was cams, headers, flywheels, suspension, weight; WITHOUT EXCEPTION, the letters where against the proposal.

Two points Dave,
Never seeing the letters as you have I would question your statement, "WITHOUT EXCEPTION". I know several guys that with letters asked for some torque/free up some torque including myself. On a similar note I'm sure the SMAC received MANY letters that suggested what you all could do with your suggested suspension/motor upgrades for the 1.6.
It dosen't take a whole bunch of talent or skill to write a check for a Pro build.
Now, back under my rock

Well, its says 94 on his info...NASA plate doesn't change and I'm not sure what the weight was last year...under 2350? But for SCCA we go from 47 to 45mm plate and lower weight from 2365 to 2350. Still looking for a 45mm plate if anyone has one from an old car!

Just curious, why would you continue to run this terrible class in which no one listens?

Few reasons hold much weight but still you find a whole army of grown men out there with stubble questioning whether they'd be faster with a Brazilian.
You've captured the essence of SM racing perfectly!

This is no different than our goverment, many complain and don't like what is going on, but it still the best country in the world.
The squeaky wheel sometimes gets the grease. How come I never hear the 99 drivers complaining about the rules in SCCA?
Happy Thanksgiving to all, even you 99 drivers

I was thinking backward, he doesn't race Nasa he races scca. I was thinking he was getting more weight, but I guess in acuallity he is getting less weight now. After driving a 97 in full out NASA trim I can tell you it is one hell of a rocket ship. I ran from about 9th to 1st in 2 laps then went to about 10th or so with a spin and still got back to 2nd for the 1 to go signal and then tried a pass to 1st and spun the car again. That car seemed to accelerate a lot harder than my awesome 99 but then again this 97 I was driving was an EAST STREET top notch 97. I just wished I could have kept it on the track, it was alot twitchier in the corners than my 99. The 97 was the best car in NASA trim last year IMO, and it will still be an awesome car for 2012 and beyond. One day I will have one of these in my stable!

Pat that has been the most eloquent way you have expressed yourself about this stuff since I have been on the forum.  Now that may be the best question you have asked!?!?  After next year you may well see some 99 owers driving another model or maybe they will be more vocal, only time will tell on this...  All you can do which is what I will be doing this winter is PREP,PREP,PREP your car for spring and be hoping for the big thaw to get back on the track without driving to Johnny Reb country.
As a 99 owner thanks for the gracious Thanksgiving wishes! and of course back at you on those same wishes!

It's the SCCA way.
I guess I'm to new to this whole little world if this is truly the way. I like to use data, facts and credibility to form my opinions(nothing implied here BTW)and though in theory things can always be improved, it would seem to me this is the best effort so far to create parity. And it was not done unilaterally by any means. Personally, I think our car took it in the shorts(NA1.8), but I will hold off final judgement until our driving ability catches up with the best and the car is the only factor!(Can dream can't I
