87 cars on a 3.27 mile track. Everyone, including my better half, made it through lap 1. It can be done (of course, I don't think many Texans were there :P ). Oh, practice/qualifying was 20 minutes, or 5-6 laps.

Moose,

Tell us how they organized qualifying. Did they stucture the release of cars?

Back in the good old days when you could win in a rental 1.6! The shocker was that we only lapped 3-4 cars in the races each day.

It was a great race. Finished up front both days. qualifying was a bit of a dance, but everyone did it. Everyone complaining on here about qualifying is a whiner!

There was a grid order, I don't remember the criteria - I think it was in the order of entry. No special grid release

The shocker was that we only lapped 3-4 cars in the races each day.

And only one or two cars DNF'd

And Glen at Traqmate leading all ! Cool!

I believe that was Mr. Thornton showing how it's done.

In turn one...

Thorton
Lamb
Hartberger
Wilson
Collins
Olson

Todd got around Bob somewhere before the end, but that is pretty much how the race ended. Lots of dicing between 3rd-10th.

Ah, my first race ever. I still remember loosing the right rear wheel at the end of the back straight. The crew has gotten better since then.

I still think this race was different then what COTA will be. Most at this race had been to the track multiple times.

What was so special about this race? why did it draw 87 cars? was it one of the first there or something. That looks like the wall mart parking lot at a shift change.

It was the Hay Day of SM. Nothing special about this race. It was a regional MARRS vs SARRC.

And the likely had some track time there before the race. It really helps when you know were the brake point are when you cannot see the track ahead of you.

I did a test here in Memphis with Ricky Stenhouse in a SM. True story, We spent the first 20-30 minutes teaching him how to drive a stick and use the clutch. He was already a pretty accomplished Sprint car driver locally at the time. Funny. Sandlin and I were significantly faster than a young Ricky. I guess that is our claim to fame. He is bad ass now, was bad ass then, just had never driven on a road course before. I can only imagine what that 16/17 year old kid was thinking with a fat guy and an old guy running around faster in a little Miata, he probably thought he had died and went to hale :)

That looked like lots of fun fellows. I'm surprised, though, that not too many have been to the awesome track at NOLA, just 14 miles from downtown New Orleans. It is a fine track with great officials in charge, and lots of amenities-even a world class go-kart track for the kiddoes and moms to enjoy, as well as a fulltime chef who knows how to cook some great food. Look at the homesite at nolamotorsports.com and see for yourselves. Good run-offs and fast Ss for those who are not faint of heart-like all you intrepid SM drivers. The prices are cheap, too. PM me for questions and I'll be happy to respond. I'm just an olde racer without no ties to the administration, but it's one of the finest tracks anywhere. A deep, dark secret apparently.... :) Our next race is Feb. 23-24th. Reggie

A group of us is definitely interested in working NOLA into our schedule.
Could you post a link to the schedule?
Thanks, Mike
