I think this 3-year Runoffs lineup is fantastic.  Hats off to those that put it together.  You're never going to please everyone 100%, but this is a nice change of pace.  Definitely something SCCA needs more of.

It's likely I will not make the trek to Laguna Seca, but I've raced there before and it's a great track and venue and an excellent choice for the Runoffs.  I think participation will be very high.

With Daytona, many love it or hate it.  I really enjoy racing there and am already excited to be there for the Runoffs in 2015.

Mid-O would be nice just in the fact it would piss off Jim :) Has he told anyone lately how much he loves that track..

My thoughts exactly, Now he will have to come back and Boo Hoo the whole time.

I am not an insider to SCCA but i hope this is the new normal of moving the runoffs around every year. Honestly because i was late to the Road America party, know so many others had lots of track time there it has scared me off of going to the runoffs knowing I would be at a disadvantage.

Moving it around every year gives everyone a chance to race at there local track or at least race against guys who have not raced it every year. I think just a more fair approach. Smart in my view as i think attendance will go up at the runoffs as everyone will be tempted to try a new venue and try there hand at a competitive run.

Plus, I am sure glad my home track is in there in 2016, I should learn how to drive it by then.

Am I the only one asking the question of why Mid-O over COTA? Based on the historical locations, they should never ever be held at Road Atlanta or Mid-Ohio again.

Track Location Years

Riverside International Raceway Riverside, California 1964, 1966, 1968

Daytona International Speedway Daytona Beach, Florida 1965, 1967, 1969

Road Atlanta Braselton, Georgia 1970–1993

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Lexington, Ohio 1994–2005

Heartland Park Topeka Topeka, Kansas 2006–2008

Road America Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin 2009–present

Like the idea of moving it around, a little disappointed we don't get one in the backyard at COTA, since I haven't gone the run-offs tough for me to complain about the cost of towing.

I agree with Charlie, the 95-97 is at no disadvantage up the hill at Mazda Laguna. We had no issue whats so ever pulling up the hill and holding our own with the NBs there. The rest of the track is another story. In reference to another thread, MRLS is not the best track for team tactics. It will be fun coming out and watching the caveman.

What are the "historical locations" and why would that rule-out utilizing them?

I didn't understand that either? I took it to mean, once you have hosted one Runoffs, you should not be able to host again

I am blown away, I never though the National Runoffs would ever come to California, let alone one of SF Region's own tracks.  After running nothing but Regionals for 25 years I finally have a reason to care about National events.  I'm excited.

With the caveman in your corner how could you win. Or is it not win. Not sure. It will sure be entertaining either way. :)

Better yet Jim, Retire, I don't know if your hart can that much caveman stress. :)

I hope the powers to be will also consider the Glenn and VIR in the coming years. two fantastic venues

Now for next years Runoffs does anyone have a line on a transport plane that can carry a few Miatas. Or maybe I should call Conrail.

So its pretty obvious the old marketing manager is out at SCCA and the new guy they hired has his finger on reality :cheering:

We are part of a CLUB...and every member should have the opportunity at some point in time to jump in their rig and drive somewhere in a days time or less and compete at the highest level! Apparently the west coast has been the ugly step child for some reason...but a least now we can stop bitching for a year :D A 3 year rotation...West, Central, East would be incredible. Time will tell if this keeps numbers up, but it sure made a lot of people happy today!

The entire week is 105db, so no sound issues.  I don't think we tend to see fog in September-October so not an issue either.  And the gravel does exist so race accordingly.  You can go 4-off anywhere in the track without getting stuck.  I locked up going into T2 and went straight in the gravel and I had to use the gas to make it to the ring road so I could get back on track.  It's like hitting tires or walls anywhere else - know where to push and where to not.

Smart on the sound! I grew up on the M Peninsula...Sept is a better month for no Fog...but it still shows up on occasion!

The gravel is what it is and most will drive according to plan...but their plan may be for you to be in the gravel ^_^

Completely excited about this and not complaining one bit...all tracks have their ups and downs and was just stating what is well known. The upside of Laguna will shine...It should bring a sold out SM run group!

Ok...how will you qualify for the runoffs in 2014??

Not necessarily.  But once you've hosted a dozen of them, maybe it's time to spread things around.  After FORTY-FIVE YEARS, maybe a few more west coast venues would be nice.

May well be a scheduling issue with COTA. They have an F1 race just a month or so later and having the Runoffs may be getting into their prep time. Also UT football will be gearing up and there may not be 2 weekends open. You don't want to try and find a motel when the Longhorns are playing.
