OR, do something simple to reduce the torque advantage of the 99+, Something along the lines of a larger diameter exhaust perhaps?

Rule change for 1.6 intake?

It seems like the motor options for increasing the 1.6 torque are pretty limited. What about allowing the 1.6 to run a 4.78 or 4.86 ring and pinon? These are the two r/p options for the 99 torsen from Mazda Comp.
Assuming 120 ft/lb tq from a NB,110 ft/lb tq from a NA:
Tq Rear Ratio Effective Tq NB Delta
NB 1.8 120 4.3 516 0
NA 1.6 110 4.3 473 -43
NA 1.6 110 4.78 525.8 9.8
I don't know if these are representative numbers for the typical SM or not.
The 4.78 gives the 1.6 a slight effective torque advantage but not nearly as much as it was at a disadvantage with the 4.3 ratio. Fix that with bumping 1.6 weight to 2450 . The more frequent shifts might make that extra ballast unnecessary though. Maybe allow the $100.00 mod to increase the redline to 7400 at the same time.

Seriously..
No parity adjustments have been sent up to the CRB for approval. So none were discussed.
The SMAC has not recommended any parity adjustments as they are waiting for the results from the test of the "super" committee.
As most know, the BOD has the SMAC/CRB on a rules season the last 3 years or so. Meaning less weights and plates, no rules changes can be made mid year. All rules changes need to be approved by the CRB on their meeting immediately following the Runoffs to get in the book fro the following season.
At this point of the year, only plates/weights can be adjusted by the SMAC/CRB. Anything else has to come from BOD level or with special BOD approval.
If the upcoming tests show something outside the normal is needed to make parity adjustments, I would feel the BOD would support it, but only time will tell there.
Jim.
