Pretty high drift factor, you totally missed the point. I could have thrown A.J. Foyt in the mix who I actually knew from crewing for Jack Bowsher/Ford outlet for USAC for 3 years back in the late 70's, but I didn't. Please carry on with your :bs:

BTW.. AJ isn't as good a Alonso either.. being older than you, doesnt make him good :)

And we will continue on with our  :bs: as that is what we do best here :)

Which one of you bastards made it rain in Texas today? It was sunny and gorgeous this morning. Drove in with the top down. I went for a 4 mile run at lunch, still sunny....hot, but nice enough in the shade. All the sudden I hear rain, check weather underground...FUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuc me!!!! the frogs are riding in boats. Both seats in the car were filled to the brim with water.

To top it all off....my security badge fell off my lanyard, and my umbrella folded up. At least its only a half-mile walk to the building where they print new badges.

Screw all y'all!

I'd be willing to bet if your close friend Alonso was put in a Sprint car and told to have at it, he'd be lost. To me there's a difference between a proven all around driver and a somewhat specialist. All around drivers would be, A.J., Mario, Tony Stewart, Kenny Schrader, Kyle Larson come to mind quickly. Put their a$$ in a race car with 4 wheels and they get the job done.

Ooooohhhh. You mean that subtropical thing. At first I thought you meant SM Alberto was coming to visit.

Seems a bit early for Alberto to be influencing our weather in Dallas. That doesn't usually start until these things get a little closer to the US Coast.

As y'all keep on spewing, everything's bigger in Texas. In this case, the water's deeper in Texas. :rotfl:

Is this a Millennial response ^,  or is your race driver knowledge minimal outside of Spec Miata.  :noidea:

I may not be as old as  you bench...but, I'm far from a millennial.  I'm definitely closer to death, than birth.

I'm aware of who both driver's are.  I watched the vast majority of Schrader's races in the cup series starting around '91 or so until he left the series in 2013.  He was never much more than a mid-pack driver.  I'm aware of Larson, but as noted above I don't watch much NASCAR anymore.  But, look he's won 5 races in 4 years---4 of them last year, none so far this year.  So, I might stop short of calling him the next greatest thing in racing.  He's averaging 2 wins a year in the busch series (oops xfinity)---not exactly barnstorming.

Sure they are both better than danica...at least they have won a race.  Although their combined career wins (9) in the cup series doesn't equal anyone's single season record for any ot the real nascar champs. But, they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as AJ, Mario, or Tony.

Alonso can drive anything as well.. F1 champion, raced indy 500 and doing Lemans this year. WAAAAY harder to swap cars now than it was in the 60's as well..

Jim, you and Tom have your "A" game humming, EXCUSES. Take away the Alonso 500 and Lemans that he will do and what've ya got, F1. $hit Mario did an F1 championship and MANY other forms of racing.  The guys I mentioned have done, their not in the learning process. Tom, look up the results of Schrader and Larson outside your little world of NASCAR. There's a whole list of NASCAR folks who've never won a NASCAR race.  Of course Derek Cope won the Daytona 500, does that make him equal to others who have won the 500 and other races in NASCAR, not.

Ummm... with all due respect, what planet are you folks living on? Comparing Alonso to A.J. Foyt? That's not even close, IMHO. And I'm a Canadian, why aren't you guys singing the praises of your own?

A.J. was a really unique talent. I think once put a dirt track car on the pole in a USAC pavement race. I haven't seen Alonso do anything like that.

Sorry Schraders career is no more impressive outside of the cup series after he left the Sprints and midgets. Sure he did. Pretty well there, but so what? Lots of people do well there and then go on to other series...either to have success or... not.

Larson is 25 years old. He hasn't proven anything yet. Again he did well in usac Sprints and midgets.

Is that what you think MAKES a world class driver? I don't really care which top level professional touring series a driver does well in... But, he's (or she's) gonna have to do well in some top level series, not just some lower tier.

I didn't make Schrader career choices. He's the one who spent 29 years in nascar to win 4 races. I just don't think makes him some shining example.

After 15 years my bar-b-chef Texas grill is meeting its maker this year. Too much rust and its just literally falling apart. I've reweld ed everything I can reweld and repainted it twice. It is time to move on.

So, does anyone have recommendations for a quality charcoal grill? Or other non gas (pellet?) variety.

I'm looking for something that I can reasonably expect to last another 15 years. Not the typical big box store items.

I generally prefer a rectangular grill surface versus the weber kettle style.

General budget is in the $500 range.

I only grill on charcoal.  Have had a Chargriller for the last dozen years.  Around $100ish on sale.  Cast iron grates.  When it rusts apart, will buy another.  But I am tempted by the green egg knock offs at costco.  600 ish.

Andy, this would be the race you mentioned and I attended.

Purely put a smile on everyone's face even if you came from Memphis. My overall point being these drivers from the 60's, 70's and future would drive todays cars alongside today best drivers to and beyond there limits. Some great Canadian's have driven in the states.

Yeah baby! I didn't agree with many of his views on the world in general, but that guy could drive a car.

Also, I don't think many of the young 'uns realize just what a big deal Indy was back in the day... It was the biggest, most prestigious event in motor racing, world-wide. And he won it four times... just something to think about if you tune in tomorrow. :-)

Be positive, think pendulum.  One day things will be so bad the litigators will be put on the sideline so we can innovate again.

Looks like Kyle Kaiser went out with a mechanical to finish 1 spot ahead of Danica. For all you young dreamers, 4 years after being DQ'd(finished P4) from the 2014 SCCA Runoffs at Laguna Kaiser ran the Indy 500!! Everything starts in SM! Bring your check book :)
