I expect this race to be dominated by west coast racers but some east coast talent will surely make their presence known.

P1:  Mark Drennan

P2:  Ken Sutherland (NA6 SM)

P3:  Danny Steyn

It's worth noting that the NA6 SMs are still popular with the Oregon and Washington racers.  This should be a good test of the competitiveness of the NA6 vs the NB SMs, although Sonoma has always struck me as the kind of track where torque can make substantial difference.

Drennan (TeamNoWifeNoKids) will be hard to beat in any car.

The 45 minute race at this track will make things interesting between the lighter, more nimble 1.6's and the torque monster 1.8's.

Looking forward to more intense competition with some of the nation's best!

May the best man or woman win!

I think you are right about Drennan, and watching your videos its clear that the NA cars dance differently at Sonoma, so should make it really interesting

As someone without a single lap under my belt at this track, I will need to get up to speed quickly.

Just hope I can learn quickly enough to race with you and the the other CA locals

Look forward to meeting you Justin

Was looking to see what the SM track record is at Sonoma, and only see Drennan's 2014 time of 1:54.933.  Is that still the current LR?

These two links A. & B. below have been copied from the COTA Smack thread.

Within the NASA DQ findings they refer to the ball bearings, as the part of the bearing which will or will not pass through the cage.

Within the SCCA updated rear CV joint rule they refer to the "The internal cage and bearing dimensions are unrestricted."

The CV joint bearing as referenced in the NASA DQ findings identifies the accumulated parts of the CV joint bearing as the cage, the ball bearings, the inner race and the outer race of the bearing is within the hub.

My point being when one reads the new SCCA rule "The internal cage and bearing dimensions are unrestricted", what is the SCCA definition of bearing. Using the word bearing is a really loose and carefree definition of the bearing spherical balls. In my mind the cage, inner race, outer race and the ball bearings are part of the CV joint bearing. I'd suggest the SCCA immediately change their new rule to specify, The internal cage and bearing spherical balls are unrestricted. SMAC/CRB/Jim Wheeler are you reading this?

Smack away my friends.   I don't have a clue why the links are not highlighted blue and openable.

Let's be clear, this is not a "new rule" that the SCCA implemented. The CRB took a temporary action to allow these modifications because:

1.) There is no time to research, write, and establish a new rule between now and the Runoffs.

2.) The purpose of this is to avoid the would-be shit show (like 2014) that would happen if they did not take some sort of action. You would have some larry in 15th or worse, that thinks he should be winning every major race if it wasn't for "all those damn cheaters in front of me", and he will put the money down on every car ahead of him to be checked. Just to prove a point.

3.) I would imagine that if there is a new rule, or a clarification of the current one, the SMAC/CRB will make sure (hopefully) that they are perfectly clear with the new rule going forward in 2019.

PC, the point of my post is, what is the definition of the word bearing in the SCCA Racing Memo dated Oct. 4, 2018? I would believe the type of CV joint/bearing being referenced in the SCCA memo dated Oct. 4, 2018 the inner race, outer race, the cage and the spherical balls are all incorporated parts of the CV joint/bearing.

Wow.... is that correct...  15 NA 1.6's are registered for this event?  that's gotta be the largest NA turn out for a championship in the last 5 years or so...  35% of the field...      Just think... if none break the top 5..   We will need some help in 2019... lol.   oh boy... this is gonna be interesting..

SCCA better get the live streaming working properly.  NASA did a pretty good job with the live stream at COTA..  Be nice if it was similar..

Be nice if the live stream used actually camerapersons instead of stationary cameras. Felt like watching a security video.
