The June Sprints is still on.   Road America and Chicago Region are working with Wisconsin, and so far, so good.

Some things to note: Bring masks and hand sanitizer.  Your balaklava is a mask….  Crew and guests will most likely be required to wear them.  Pain in the ass, yes.  But a small price to pay in order to race.  Gojo or equivalent is a hand sanitizer….  Technically so is race fuel ?

Annual tech: 2019 annual tech validity has been extended.  Any annual conducted on or after March 12th will be valid.  Please make sure to double check your safety items.

If you will need an annual, please try and let our tech crew know ahead of time, so we can try and schedule them without crowding.

We are working on modified tech per SCCA guidelines, to streamline things.  I am not yet sure how gear check is going to work when you get your tech sticker, but my guess is that it is not necessary if you have a valid (normal or extended) annual.

The final schedule is here:  https://ucarecdn.com...b-d86f3a4f0a71/

RA is still holding a test day Thursday.  Contact RA for details.  We will be parking people starting some time late Wednesday.

So far, only 34 Sm's.  Come on boys and girls.  It costs you nothing to register, and nothing to withdraw prior to the start.  Credit cards won't be charged until June 12.

Great news.  I think SM easily gets 50 entries.  Looking forward to it.

I am being told elsewhere that this is going to get cancelled because of lack of spectators, or moved to the CAT Nationals date.  Need to have some clarification since I need to book flights if it is happening.

I have been told today that they think it is going by what I believe to be another somewhat reliable source. But in all reality, no one knows for sure yet.

Please allow me to clarify that as of this writing, the June Sprints is ON, and we have had no communication from RA to the contrary. In fact, Road America is selling spectator tickets to the June Sprints, along with the MotoAmerica Superbike race two weeks before the Sprints (along with all of the events after the Sprints).

Chicago Region SCCA has been working very hard at our normal preparations for the event, along with the necessary operational modifications due to Coronavirus. We are looking forward to a great weekend of racing at America's National Park of Speed, great food, and seeing great friends that we haven't seen since last year (socially distant, of course).

39 of the current 369 entries are SM.  Please see list below.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Kevin Coulter

Chief Steward

Should be a packed house given how sports starved we are now.  Heck ESPN or NBCSN should televise the event. Not kidding!  They've got almost nothing else to show other than re-runs of the 1997 Stanley Cup Playoffs or the Buffalo Bills losing 4 straight Super Bowls and similar.

54 SM entered as of today!  81 SRF's!

So what's the talk about tires for SM for this event?  Leftover SM7's or will the folks that like to run 2-3 sets at this event all be on the 7.5's?  Hearing the tires differ a bit more than expected, but which will be faster or preferred by the top dogs?  Or will it rain and negate the choice?

Tom, whatever the 7.5's are, is the supply large enough for ALL SM entrants at the Sprints to have a set or sets of tires they require?

I don't think there is any supply issue with the 7.5's.  New SM7's if wanted might be a different story.

We can run SM7's for any race up until the Runoffs this year and then SM7.5 only for Majors and HST and Runoffs thereafter or until the SM8 (cough, cough) is introduced.  SM7 for regionals through 2021 I think.  Does that complicate your Sprints test day strategy?

Not for me, I have 4 sets of sm 7.5 stickers and have no intentions of buying 7's ( not sure you even can)from here forward. I have only 2-4 session 7's that I will use to test with and put the sm 7.5 on for qualifying and go from there

Welp, I was planning on this being one of a couple big trips for the year.  Then I assumed that it would be cancelled or significantly subdued so I decided I wouldn't make the trip.  Now I might be changing my tune again.  We had an event in Houston this weekend, besides the lack of tech (hopefully that's not the case at June Sprints) everything else felt pretty close to normal.

Decided to scramble together a trip with some folks down here in Texas.  77 on the entry list.  Not sure I've ever put together a race weekend this big this quickly, but I am so excited to get up there!

My understanding is that some rear caliper pin likes to fail at RA?  Also do a double check of control arms?  Anything else in particular for this track?  I feel like I hear alot of stories of stressed stuff breaking here and I'd rather not have that happen if I can help it...

Brake knock-back is a big issue, doubly so if you have gutted the self-adjusters on the rears. Start with full pads to minimize how much room there is to knock back and make a habit of setting your pads after any rumble contact. You’ll likely notice little flashes of brake lights ahead of you as reminders but you want to develop the habit because you REALLY don’t want to arrive at some of those corners and need two pumps to get a pedal. If it happens, don’t make the mistake of just keeping the pedal on the floor, be ready to react with a quick extra stroke as you find a safe route through.

I take off my rear calipers pretty much every session to make sure that there is no play in the rear upper caliper pin. Make sure that that caliper pin is red loctited in, if it is not already.

The wide black curbs on the exits of turn 1,5,8, and 12 are rougher on equipment, and IMO, using too much of them is not the fastest way around the track, but you can use them. The red/yellow exit curbs around most of the track are easier on equipment, and you can usually use them religiously in turns 3,6,7(ish), and 14. Make sure you tap your brakes before the brake zones though!
