54 cars are signed up so there are only 12 spots left. 66 cars is going to be a pretty darn big run group however, I like the current number once you go over 55 things get tricky. going to have a split start this year I hope Jerry.
No problem on the split start, you can start half a track behind

As of Friday AM, there are 65 entrants, 30 SM's.
I don't have anything to do with the logistics of this event. As we saw last year, a split start does not work in the Shootout format. Grid positions should be fairly well sorted out by the main race on Sunday. Everyone just needs to play nice in getting through the first few turns.

But that isn't any fun

That was because they were giving some type of prize or award for first place over all that is not really fair either How are the SM's able to compete with some of the Hi HP IT cars. this format really does not make any sense to me and its not safe either. As of Friday AM, there are 65 entrants, 30 SM's.

I bet if you took a vote of the SM field which is the largest group we would forgo a shot at the overall since we can not win it anyway to have our own split start. Can you put me in touch with who is calling that shot so I can voice an opinion?

I am not sure if its better to be first or second. I know I would rather be going through slower traffic than being the group that is getting caught from behind.

yes please, I am on the waiting list and I want to play too
Skip it & bring your 1.6 to the June Sprints joining a couple other quiet quick 1.6's. Road America can handle 100 at a time.

I count 8-10 cars that may be faster than SM. If SM is the first wave you'll be on the IT B&Cs in a couple laps. If SM is the second wave then even sooner. My theory is after qualifying there will be a handful of ITS and ITAs first, a big gob of SMs in the middle and ITB, C and 7s in the back. (Cabe, 2012)
Something else to consider is it took NASA GreatLakes a season or two to really perfect split starts. There were some real cluster-Fs at first. The OVR SCCA has seldom attempted them. Do you want to be their 'practice'?
I don't really care, it will be busy either way. Just sayin be careful what you ask for.
Personally I think it should have been an SM only race.

+1, we finally agree on something, writting this down...Personally I think it should have been an SM only race.
