David,

Please answer the original question.

Please answer the question: Why does it matter to YOU, if a 1.6 can win the Runoffs at Road America?

Mr. Ross
Mr. Dewhurst has spent the last 5 plus years answering questions with questions or avoiding them all together.. Do a search on old site with him and Bennett, this is nothing new. I would not hold my breath waiting fr a direct answer to a direct question. I am 0 for 1,237 in that regard with Mr Dewhurst :) Good Luck

Mario Andretti (72 y/o) could beat all y'all driving a Pinto.

You guys are REALLY nuts.. Mario Andretti at 72 years old would be another competitive SM driver at the Runoffs, IF and ONLY if he were in a good car.
Top F1/Nascar/Indy etc guys now in good cars could drive away. Same guys in a mid pack car, they could race with leaders and probably win, but would not be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination, NO WAY! Look at how well good SM drivers do elsewhere, very few drivers are driving away from any competitive SM or SRF field at ANY race

Love the F1 stars in ordinary cars on Top Gear. It would be such a hoot if we could get a few F1 stars to come race SMs with the regular folk. Probably a huge boost for club racing.

Prolly not F1, but IndyCar could use the exposure. Ride swap? :scratchchin:

And Jerry Rice or Troy Aikman would just be "pretty good" in a neighborhood pick-up game now.

Not dissing, but no comparison between pro and amateur talent.

Went to school with a guy who made it to the pros in MLB. We had a pick-up game at our 10-year reunion and we asked him to throw a couple over the plate. No one offered to catch after the first pitch.

I think Jeff Gordon belongs to Monticello, and Jimmie Johnson has an apt in NYC. You can get Smoke into anything with wheels, along with Joey Logano.

I'm thinking if the Maybury cup happens again this year, we send out some invites.......

Driving a car requires, hand/eye, foot/eye, hand/foot coordination. It also requires the ability of the gluteus maximus and minimus to interpret what the car is doing. It requires intestinal fortitude, split second judgements and concentration like no other activity I have ever participated in.

Almost all of those are learnable traits. You cannot teach speed, you cannot learn height.. etc. Racing is an activity that woman can, and DO compete directly with men at the highest levels. The same cannot be said of the baseball, basketball, football....etc.

The car has the ability to limit the performance of any driver. In a NASCAR, an Indy or Formula 1 I stand no chance competing againt the pros. In an SM where all I have to do is drive the car to its maximum capability I can be within a few tenths of most drivers at tracks I am familiar with. I can drive the car damn close to its physical limits. It does not matter how good the other driver is even if he/she drives it to its absolute physical limits, we will be in the same race, especially if my cars limits are a bit higher than the pros.

Believe me I appreciate and admire the abilities of the pros especially the best of the best, but the car limits their ability to outperform the best SM drivers by a signifcant margin.

Please Mr. Dewhurst answer my original question so we can move on.

Ok i will answer for him I am sorry I asked a stupid question sorry david
Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.

In ANY car, the Dude will drive away from each of you.

This explains so much about a lot of your posts. While Mr. Loshak certainly is a good driver and National Champion you are talking about a guy coming from a front wheel drive high horsepower, straight cut transmission, proper shocks, proper tire, seam welded 2000lb car which couldn't be further from a SM. I am pretty familiar with EP and some of the coolest national championship races I have seen have been in EP. Those races however were typically 3 and 4 car battles (for the win) at best. Pratt Cole is a former multi year national champion in EP who went on to do some SM and he did not "drive away from anyone" and in todays field wouldn't even finish top 10. Not taking anything away from Mr. Cole, but I am sure even he would admit it would be difficult, as he certainly respects the level of talent at the front of SM in any region in the country and it would take seat time to get back up to speed. Come to think of it.... I am not sure anyone in the history of SM at the Sprints or the Runoffs has ever "Run Away" with the race.

Winning the national championship in a SM takes several things...... Luck, Prep, Money, Exceptional Talent, a 100% mistake free race, not being taken out by a monkey on lap 1, the perfect tires etc, etc, etc. If your guy Loshak doesn't have any seat time in one of these things I doubt he will even be in the top 10. I don't car how good he is, if he has no seat time in one of these things it is going to take some time to figure the car out.

Your lack of respect for the front runners in Spec Miata is embarrassing. Take a quick look at where a lot of the top SM guys have gone in racing and that should say it all.....

I tell you what.... If I am wrong about the top 10 at the Runoffs or Sprints, you pick..... I will pay for a single race entry for you of your choice (Club Race in a SM) but if your guy doesn't finish in the top 10 how about you agree to refrain from posting on this site for 1 year? You can still read it, you just have to be silent.

How confident in him are you? Better yet, how confident are you that the SM front runners just haven't raced against a good driver yet?

Get a clue...... Have some respect for your fellow racers and admit when you are wrong.

Do you guys remember what Loshak was selling his EP car for in Sportscar a few years ago? You could buy 5 of Drago's miata's for that price- seriously! I'm pretty certain he wasn't at any horsepower disadvantage to anyone he raced against.
