The next Fastrack will announce that starting in 2014 Spec Miata will go 1999-05 only. The cars will weigh 2400 lbs, the 1999/00 will carry a 50 mm restrictor while the 01-05 will run with no restrictor (55mm). This is in MAJORS and Runoffs Competitions only. Club racing will continue to support SM as we know it today with the exact same rule set that we have now. I know this will be met with some controversy, but long term, this will be a better class for all and the 2014 launch date leaves us with plenty of time to prepare.

Thanks

Jim

The SMAC voted unanimously on this and was able to get the full support of the CRB after two presentations.

Pat the SCCA offers a STRONG Club Racing program for 1.6 cars (NA) cars.  There are only 24 Majors and 1 runoffs.  We think this is in the best interest of the class and close "pro like" competition.

That is not a definite yet. We are working with Mazda on a sealing process that is cost effective. That may not be until 2015 though

Guess I'll do a major or two this year in my 1.6, and then back to regionals.  I never really raced nationals before this anyway.

If this is true, I think it makes a lot of sense for the class moving forward.  Kind of hurts the value of the NA cars that are out there, and for sure I won't be investing any more money into mine I don't think.

I know there a lot of rumors floating around, some of the DC people saw the test.  The first presentation to the CRB did not include the Crate engines.  The second did and Mazdaspeed is now sorting it out with the same sealing agent from the Playboy Cup series.  It is good for timing as the new ND is scheduled for next year.

This is total BS, considering I've had a 2006 MX-5 build waiting in the wings because Daniels and Collins assured me it would be SM "Car Of The Year" any day now.

What is the point of even writing letters anymore?

Please describe the intended sealing process---

1. Everyone new crates through Mazda?

2. Testing and sealing of Engine builders engines?

Not true.  SM5 will not join SM, we looked at it.  Power steering, ABS brakes and the completely different drive-train keep them from being compatible.

The plan is still in the works.  The program would be VERY similar to the Playboy Cup/SM5 plan.  It would not be fully implemented until 2015, it would roll out in 2014 with the "built motor" cars potentially receiving a weight penalty, for 2015/beyond you would need an electronically sealed Mazdaspeed engine to compete at Majors and the runoffs.
