Curious for those who are there...was there a lot of water at the start of the session today...as in standing? Or was the track just wet? Did anyone go out on dries?

I tried to go out on dries thinking that with all the cars on track that it'd dry up pretty quick and get a couple of dry laps in. A majority of it was getting pretty dry on the last lap too. Turn 3 stil had a couple small puddles, carousel was a little greasy on the dries, and the rest of the track after that was pretty much still damp till about 14. The kink was a definite wet spot though. For some reason the water just did not want to dry up completely, but another lap or two would have yielded better results.

Overall it wasn't all for nothing. I got to take my time and practice turn in points as I find myself turning in way too early. Hopefully tomorrow will end up dry for us!

Yep.  He's probably hoping the forecast for Friday is closer to 100% rain.  :-)

Finally, a full session. Glad to have gone out. Much fun to be had in the wet conditions especially on dry tires. Zero forgiveness in the wet spots!!!!! YIKES, almost balled up the car on 4 separate occasions, had to dial it down a notch until it started drying.

Time for Mazda party.. I went out for first time on the h2o tires. Very good. I was pretty conservative about .8 -1.0 off Danny and Todd. Those guys seemed the class of field today. I figured it was time to pull in before I got too comfortable. Todd, danny and elivan all seemed real fast while I was out there. I did seven laps and parked. If you are comparing times, you need to look lap per lap. It seemed like the times dropped 1-1.25 per lap or so. Maybe it will rain again tomorrow and be dry Friday

The Mazda party has always just been another thing to go to etc. Tonight was absolutely awesome. It was a great show. Dave Despain hosted. Who knew Dave Despain is one funny SOB, he had us cracking up.  He did an interview with Randy Pobst and Michael Galati. I could have listened to those guys for hours.  It was a riot.. When they were finished Dave said he wanted to introduce our next special guest and out walks Charboneau to the stage.. ( he was introducing Jim Downing BTW)  Andrew was in rare form. 

 

The highlght of my night was while on stage taking a picture of all the past Mazda National champions, I convinced Dean Case to call Novaks raffle ticket number as a joke. Watching him jump up in excitement only to be told it was a joke was cruel, but man was it funny. We lauged for 20 minutes straight Thankfully Mike is a great sport

 

If you missed the Mazda party tonight, you missed a good one, I would have actually bought that ticket, it was a blast.

Downpour during STL qual this AM. Nothing quite like the experience of hydroplaning at 30mph in the kink.

Still raining - maybe it will dry for SM but predictions are that times will be significantly off.

Watching race monitor, looks like he's paired up with Haldeman and is already in the 43's.

So what happened to the end of the session?  Race monitor just stopped updating, or everyone pulled off early.  Rain, red flag?  No one felt they could get anything more?

The session got shortened to 15 minutes from what I could tell trackside. Track was dry but green. Haldeman and steyn worked together until Haldeman spun in 5.

Should be fun tommorrow
