Serious tech before the race, really.

Since when did grill mesh become a tech item? I've never seen a wire thickness spec anywhere
Not sure if the rules for Nass are the same but this is from the SCCA GCR.
5. A radiator screen of 1/4 inch minimum mesh may be added in front of the radiator. The screen must be installed behind the front bumper cover and attached to the air guide. Tape and/or other materials may not be applied to the mesh or in the radiator opening in the bodywork. Tape or other materials may only be added directly to the radiator.

Congrats to Matt, Danny And Johnathan.
Was a tough race for me. But car was fast, Set up is not good, Losing front grip after 2-3 laps, I had a poor driving car so I was content with a 4th place finish. Two top fives is the goal. Btw, I had a little help going off, did not get there on my own.
Two people were put off in 10b and no contact papers? nothing called in? Seems odd with NASA's contact policy. Front left to right rear seems like something that might get called in? Especially in drastic position change in the cars getting hit in rear? 2 to 13 for me.
Tomorrow is another day, we were here late tonight on the scales.. hopefully we made some headway. Cars are running very hot. Cockpits are very hot.. Hopefully a 1 and a 4 will get me on front row for the big show Alexs car was fast at the end and I would give away a few tenths to keep the car more consistent. Matts car looked very planted as well, Danny's not so much. .

Contact reports can be picked-up in Impound. If one of the parties fills one out and the other does not makes the race director do one of the following:
- Go find the other party to find out what happened.
- Just go with the one report and penalize not non-reporting driver.
Is it worth the risk of not filling on out??
MY SUGGESTION: Fill out a contact report every time you get hit in a non nose-to-tail that results in a change of position, deviation or an off.

Today's Qualifying Race 2 was a repeat of Day 1. Matt and I broke away early and broke the draft to the chasers behind us. We managed to build up an 11 second lead at the finish. Alex drove a great race to get back to 3rd and Yiannis was a creditable 4th. I understand that Drago got skunked a couple of times and dropped back into the melee.
With regard to tech the checked the following on many cars
- Weight
- Dyno (2nd time for me)
- Restrictor plate (3rd time for me)
- Track width
- Sway bar size
- Hubs for Ceramic bearings
- Lower subframe brace for lead fill
- Removed shocks and off to shock dyno
- and possibly more
Good to see so many cars being checked, not just the front runners.
Tomorrows race should be pretty exciting.

Thanks Danny.
The 2014 NASA SM Rules on the web site left off the jointly used SCCA shock spec for some reason (we've tried to fix it a few times). Anyway, for those who want to know the spec here is a link.

Dyno results handed to drivers this evening at the Mazda Dinner (thanks to Mazda's Steve Saunders for the great evening, and lots of freebies handed out).
Dyno results varied around the 122-126HP and around 112-118 TQ. There were some outliers. Mine was 125 Hp 116TQ. Cannot comment on dyno procedures, but for the most part, most of those tested appear to be within a normal spread. Others are lower and others are higher. Tom Fowlers rental car which is an 01 made almost identical numbers to my '99, yet on the track they race very differently.

Congrats to Matt, Danny, and Alex.
Another tough trip for me.. I thought I had a pretty good handle on these tires a few weeks ago, apparently i was incorrect as I am good for 4-5 laps and the wheels fall off the bus. today was equally driver and car, neither was very good. Hopefully we will figure something out for tomorrow.. It will be better or worse, but not the same.

Hell of a move by Alex under the bridge to leap frog 4 cars.
