No one said fatties don't have the right to compete, we're just not guaranteeing their competitiveness. On a more serious note(*), we have two people locally that are like 6'7"+ who would love to race SM, but can't fit in the car. Why don't we allow the floor to be dropped? They are much more genetically challenged than those on the Caveman diet.
Serious that I've seen a bunch of tall people who've expressed interest in SM, but just won't fit in the car. Not serious about lowering the floor. Though I remember at the 2010 Nats, the "Evil Genius" actually built a bubble in his hard top for helmet clearance. Wonder if someone would have protested him had he won.

To address the obese comments. I played football and competed in cycling up until a couple years ago. When I was training with the team I road 1,000 miles per month and eating a proper diet and could never get my weight below 200 lbs. because of body type. Am I OBESE and indulge in a unhealthy lifestyle, I don't think so.
I drive a 97 NA car with a 2,350 min. weight and my car is always over weight even without a cool suit.

Back to a serious thought, and this would have to be for 2016, but what do people think about allowing lexan windshields? Probably not as much of a problem back east where you actually have water and can grow grass, but out west we have tons of stones right off the pavement and the fatality rate of a windshield for a season pretty much 100%. It only takes two windshields before you've more than covered the cost of lexan.
NASA Utah SM Director
I would assume the lexan is quite a bit lighter than glass.... that would be the rub. Relocating high weight.

Doesn't this just push the heavier guys into a better car ?

I am 210 lbs and I think if you saw me you wouldn't say I was obese, you might even think i was somewhat fit. Muscle weighs more than skin and bones.

Supposedly it is a 10 lbs savings. I'll know for sure by next year when I install it. (I also have an E3 enduro car...settle down people.)

So what i thought i heard from the ARRC was that the 01 was not an overdog at Atlanta. How would have 50lbs or a smaller plate worked out?

Many years ago the SMAC discussed Lexan windows. This was back in the days of Myself, Fowler, meathead and Drago on the committee. After a lengthy discussion, we turned down the idea, Knowing that approving the Lexan would be a financial "good deal" for us shop owners. As it is a bad idea for the class.
part of the issue is that it is not as simple as remove the glass and glue in plastic. SCCA general rules for plastic glass would require 3 internal braces and external clips/straps. Rules also require 1/4" or 7mm plastic, which is not available at the big box stores. Thick Lexan is hard to bend, creates visuale waves when bent.
Having a properly formed, 1/4" thick piece of scratch resistant Lexan would be in the $400 range if I agreed to purchase 20 pieces plus pay for the mold. This is from one of the racing industries premier lexan window manufacturers.
Lexan is better for rock chips, but it still wears with windblown sand. I would put the lifespan of a lexan window at 15-20 races.
This is an example of "it sounds good at first" not being the smart decision for the long run. This is how the SMAC used to work. I hope it is how the persons involved in our current rulemaking process are thinking.
Dave
p.s. The answer as shown in Fasttrack would be "Thank yo for your input, not within class phylosophy
