Tom chose not go out in the last race so he could help the 15 drivers under his tent change make the last minute change from dry tires to rain tires (they extended the 5 minute call to allow cars to get to the grid)

Tom's 1.6 of his was able to bump the bumper of the rental OPM VVT that I was driving, and pass it.

And that rental VVT is very strong (all my velocity time traces were as good as any of my personal car traces) and that same VVT finished 5th at the 2013 Runoffs at Road America in the hands of Joey Jordan.

As to its legality I would imagine that it is spot on, but as to its percentage of prep I would say its an 80% car. I doubt that Tom is  throwing a championship budget at that rental car. IMHO there is probably more to be found in freeing bearings, brake drag, etc, stuff that would hurt a rental car reliability and rental customer experience, but would free up some time for the serious contender.

Sounds like it was being run as a test of header and cold air intake, excellent. But from what I can see it was not nearly as competitive in a couple other sessions. Were those without the extra help or just not great laps, or maybe without benefit of a draft? I don't know the track but I think it's true that with the current rules the 1.6 can draft and bump any equally prepped car, that doesn't really take much. Completing a pass or getting a run out of a slow corner is more the issue.

Barber is a handling track with substantial elevation changes. Barely hit 100mph on the straights - no 5th gear. In qualifying Tom was as fast as anyone (other than Alex in Q2 who was in another time zone to us all).

In Race 1 Tom was up front contending but we were all putting our noses in - I shuffled him back and then later he intentionally waved one of his customers by to get his SARRC points. Tom also had another driver drive the car in the TT sessions. Not an SM driver). And as I stated Tom did not go out in the rain in Race 2 as he was generously changing tires for us all. So only one race on a tight track with few passing opportunities when racing very similar cars. Anyone watching this race with Fowler driving his car would have said the 1.6 is competitive as driven. I personally had nothing for him.

Buras/Drago prepped to the hilt for year 2012.

View the video of the 2012 June Sprints 1.6 win and validate using video time element the passes made by the Todd Buras/Jim Drago 1.6 other than when someone moved Pat S. out of the way in T8, when the 1.6 had inside position and passed Craig B. entering T12 and Craig returned the pass with ease. Then Tom Long and Todd passed Craig and Jim in the Kink mess. No disrespect Todd B. great win.

If the engine builders have further developed the 1.6 since 2012 they should be blowing their horns.

As from the Mazda test data adding a header would be a bit much IMHO.

The only relevant thing in this post.. history will repeat itself, always does. Todd will win races again next year in his 1.6.. The vocal minority complaining now will still be 2-3 seconds off the pace still be complaining about their 1.6 cars. Perhaps someone else can prove this point when it comes back again in 2019

I only see what the 2012 June Sprints video shows. If you view different in that video please with a video time element indicate a pass or two the 1.6 did on it's own other than mentioned in my previous post. My comment has nothing to do with Saul, vocal minority, 2-3 seconds off the pace, complaining or any other filler material.

Not going back to look again at what I know for time stamps for a retired guy with little else to do with his time. The facts are simple and at this point does any one really care?

I remember you promising to stop running your mouth if the 1.6 car won at Road America.. In typical fashion, that only lasted about 6 months and then the excuses started followed by the constant whining.

Splane this ^ bit of logic please.

Doesn't the above logic get it all back to square one where the 1.6 required more power (if we agree) to begin with. Seems to be a bit of fuzzy logic, give the 1.6 some power and along with the power add some weight.

Bench -  there are a lot of people working hard to make things happen for the NA - but your incessant whining is NOT helping.

Do us all a favor please - Try posting something constructive. Share information to help newbies how to go faster. Show them how to do a full on pro build. Share video that helps other learn a track.

But please give us all a break - there I said it!

So your thoughts on this is what ?

Now remember you said it had a cheap header and the turn signal removed.

Would he have been there without the header and turn signal removed ?

Where these mods to much or not enough for the 1.6 ?

Ps I'm not whining I'm just asking ?

Kuch - as of yet we don't have enough data from enough tracks. Cannot comment on whether Fowler's 1.6 would have run that way without the header and turn signal delete as we did not run it that way in the few sessions we had (no test day)

However the SMAC believes that the 1.6NA needs something and we are going to give it some thing(s). It is possible that we will give it too much and then we will probably have to dial it back with weight and plate.

At the risk of being labeled non-constructive is there a timeline for the NA somethin somethin? Frankly I've been reading about it all year and the 2015 season is almost over.

It would be great to know before the end of this year so I can implement changes (only once) in the off-season.

Posted air temperatures with illegally wrapped air intake tube from AFM to throttle body.

Simple, if there is a package of upgrades that allows the 1.6 to produce similar power to the other cars then it should race at a similar weight.  On the other hand if allowed changes don't have much impact on power then it should continue to run at a lighter weight.

I'm fine with raising the 1.6 weight back to 2300 lbs.

Excuse me Dean Wormer, what are the chances that my lard ass can make weight at 2275? https://www.youtube....h?v=2V3CfD8TPac

Come to Summit Point this weekend and we'll show you 40+ cars that are anything but Major builds that can make that weight, or get close enough to it that one can see how it could be done.
