Now there is another serious dent in the racing budget
Congratulations!
Jim
The budget just increased, every time I buy something or go away, I have to buy my wife something of equal value for her.....

I like where you're going with this! Assuming your stated principal works inversely, if I buy something for my wife, I then have to buy something of equal value for the car. And since my wife is the car, that means it's a two for one special! I can have a $40k car for just $20k on the budget sheet hehe

Been out of town for a week and I am so confused. Did Jason propose to his car? And if so, what is her name and did he add that Rock to the budget?
I wish Jason would find a woman so he wouldn't call me so often

Yup proposed to the girlfriend (car) who is now fiance. Makes sense, right, cause she takes all my time any money! Hmm, I probably should figure out what her name is...! Oh, and photoshop rocks don't cost anything

Psh, I call you once a week, and you still only answer 30% of the time!

Just checked my records of our call history, There have been 5 phone calls that I made to you that you actually answered in the last 31 days. So, approximately one per week!

Seems we have a discrepancy between these two claims....
1 answer per week / 30% answers per call = 3.33 calls per week

Maybe I missed it along the first 29 pages, but when and where is the hopeful first race for this car?

Looks like you have to add 25$ to the compliance fee Jason. OHHHHHHH!!!!

Domm,
Maybe this car will get done this spring, maybe not!
Original plan was for it to be done by end of March, with a first race in April. I am a couple weeks behind, but perhaps that timeline is still achievable??

Well, looks like I got called out on that one. I'll owe you some beer Erik. Or rather, I'll subtract it off the tally of beer that you should in good conscience bring to my my house to make up for all my beer that you have already drank in the last year!

Divorcees are housekeepers, cars not so much.

Tore open the original 16 year old fuel filter. Wasn't expecting to find much, but there was actually a decent film of slimy crud on the paper. I'm not sure if this causes much of a restriction that would make the fuel pump work harder, since there is so much surface area of paper. That said, for how cheap fuel filters are, I am glad I replaced it. Piece of mind.
Decided to take apart the intake manifold and clean it. There is always a TON of carbon buildup on the inside of these from years of EGR and PCV flow. Oven cleaner is your friend here. I'm sure there are other methods as well. I'm not concerned with getting all of the black staining off, just the bulk of the buildup. Primary goal is also to ensure that there is no debris inside the manifold that could make it into the engine. That would be unfortunate.
Manifold with oven cleaner on it. You need to let it sit for ~20 minutes or so for it to do its work.
After over cleaner, took it over to the parts washer and rinsed it out. Then brake cleaned and blew dry with an air gun. Good enough.
Finished rebuilding the brake calipers as my seal kits arrived today. Thought about painting them first, but decided it isn't worth the trouble. I don't know why, but this is the second time I have ordered from rockauto, and they sent me two clearly different brands of dust boot. One installs easily, as it should. The other is 'just a little too big' and takes some fiddling to get into the retaining groove on the caliper body.
Anyone need any almost-new Hawk HPS pads?
I was going to install the calipers on the car tonight, but got frustrated when I discovered that the retailer I purchased my race pads from shipped out two sets of front pads. doh. Called it a night.

Disassembled rear calipers:
Disassembled and cleaned all 4 calipers, but I am waiting on rebuild kit/seals to arrive, so can't reassemble today.
So once you do this, you just put the piston back in without the other pieces, right? Anything else?
Any trouble with the infamous C-clip?

I would just order another set of rears and keep the fronts! Its a 3/2 maybe even 2/1 front front wear vs rear. And the rear price they charged you for the front was likely less!
What i found the first time I did a rear brake rebuild was the "cheap kits" do not include all the seals...of course after i took it all apart as you have. Mazda kits do have everything. 2nd time i did this i left the adjuster and e-brake parts alone and just removed the little hand grenade part in the piston. No ill affects and they have been fine for 3 years now. In fact, leaving the little allen bolt adjuster inside came in handy when a pit mate found one of his rear brake adjusters and bolt was missing during a pad change..."borrowed" mine to back out his piston.
