Looking very nice!
So I have a question, for this sort of tub-up build, how do you keep track of exactly where all the bits and pieces, particularly hardware - go? I usually try to put hardware back on after I take something apart so it's right there in the right place when I go to reassemble, or worst case baggie-and-post-it-note, but if you're painting the tub like this much of the fasteners needs to come off. Do you try to keep track of what hardware goes with what during disassembly or do you just use all new hardware and use whatever fits to your liking, regardless of what was there from the factory?
I'm sure guys who do this for a living have it all committed to memory, but for folks who might do 2-3 of these ever, what's the best approach?
Thanks.
I'm sure everyone has their own system. As far as parts go, I don't have any trouble keeping track via memory of where to reinstall them. If needed, I always have plenty of photos to help jog the memory. For fasteners, if they are generic 6mm bolts or nuts, I just throw them all in a bin, and when reinstalling, grab one of the appropriate length and head flange size. If the part attaches with more specific bolts, I keep them with the part. For example, prop shaft flange bolts, you can re-install them finger tight on the flange so you don't lose them. same with subframe brace bolts, suspension bolts, etc.
Side note: The bolts for attaching the front subframe brace are the same diameter and length as those for attaching the rear subframe brace to the chassis. But, they are not the same thread pitch!! Found that out last year when I stripped out one of the internal weld nuts on the chassis for the rear brace when I tried to install a front bolt by accident. Won't be doing that mistake again, was a huge pain to fix properly.
