In Kyle's post above I agree with him in a minor incident were there is fender contact if its minor, drivers agree on fault, SCCA should keep out of it, but when two three cars are going home on a flat bed, that takes this to a different level. There was serious risk of injury in those crashes. That would dictate points and probation IMO.

We are never going to take Judgment out of the equation. What we are trying to do is obtain better enforcement and some consistency. It will never be perfect, but it can be better.

Which is precisely what I am advocating, had I made argument about parity sure it would have been understood by Mr engineer. Thank God lawyers know what is meant by there is a difference between agreeing on fault and agreeing the incident should be dropped, how many with wadded up cars at ginger would have advocated the issue be dropped I estimate zero.

I have a door donut and received a small door dent on my way to win the cat majors last year, was told by the guy I put the donut on he never had one before thought it was very cool all 3 of us were high giving after a great race... Eho I'd to say some tcc who may or may not have allegences or any real racing experience would have said the same thing.

At the end kf he day you can require reporting if contact... Still tough to enforce even when called in by corner workers. I have Ben called in a few times when I had never touched a soul, corner workers don't always get the number correct. But they try and that's all we can ask.

Does something need to change yes I think so. But there needs to an opportunity for drivers to resolve the conflict without big brother getting in on the party. If it's major contact sure call in the police or the swat. But minor stuff should be left to the drivers, we all talk so we know who is in the sheet metal bending business regularly and can choose to escalate the case up the chain if our minor bender was perpetrated by that individual.

I am not trying to lay blame or accuse anyone, but if there is a penalty for each contact, what would of happened this past weekend in Jersey??

Tyler and Mark both made contact on Saturday race on the last lap, I am sure a few of you have seen the video on Facebook.

Also as a fyi, the race steward brought up in the drivers meeting what has been proposed on this website. He wanted our feedback, we were supposed to go back after the 2nd qualafying but it was so freaking hot I did not want to hang around, not sure if anyone else went back for part 2.

How about assign points for ALL contact, more so just for record keeping purposes, but do not assess any sort of penalties until a SIGNIFICANT amount of points is acquired? It should also be no-fault points for anyone involved. I believe some "innocent" drivers who repeatedly end up on the "receiving-end" of incidents should perhaps take a step back and think about how they keep ending up in these situations.

Just the opinion of a new guy who has half-ass raced a few different things over the years. I'll shut up now.

I think it's a tough choice to make because it could be a big pain having them police us. I don't think anyone wants to get a bad mark on there record just for a donut mark.

That being said I have witnessed a lot of bad driving out there that has caused plenty of pile ups even if they didn't have contact with the actual wreck. I have been racing for about 6 years and only had to replace two front fenders and one quarter panel repair (knock on wood). I say that's pretty good for 6 years of racing and I have also witnessed a few drivers out there that are on there second, third and fourth car. Those guys need to take a good look at themselves and ask the question why.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to a points system.

This discussion was reminding me a bit of the iRacing safety rating system which reduces a driver's safety rating for incidents (contact, loss of control, etc.) on a no-fault basis.  Plenty of debate about it over the years, which you can probably still find on their forums.

Also I saw this today http://ekartingnews....ce-for-karting/ - another form of spec racing where managing contact can be an issue.

No disrespect to the inventors of this device. A couple weeks ago I spectated at the Kart races (150 Karts several classes) at the Badger Kart Club track, Dousman, WI. It was almost comical looking at the damaged front and rear full Kart width bumper car bumpers. When Bumpers/aero package became the next best thing to candy, driver respect went down hill similar to NASCAR since the improved cars, seats, H & N devices and safety walls. Totally destroy a multi thousand dollar car and walk away.  Don't get me wrong, not hurting and killing drivers is a good thing. Do these per say safety devices decrease drivers respect for each other?

Not here you aren't. It's been a common problem across other collision sports: football and hockey, in particular. How do you control reckless behavior, which used to be self-moderating? Both sports have seen a rise in concussions and other serious injuries as a result of the skew in consequences for the person doing the hitting and the person being hit.

It should be possible to develop a process which can include a conclusion of inadvertent contact or something being determined to be a "racing incident".  Having an official process doesn't mean it has to be overly officious or lengthy.  Punishment should fit the crime and sometimes that should mean no penalty, just a quick review, an opportunity to talk about it and awareness the next time out.

Recently we all saw the press release from the SCCA and Mazda regarding their acknowledgment that they have heard our concerns regarding contact and the lack of corrective action or penalties for bad driving. First off, I am happy that the SCCA now sees this as a problem and that Mazda is interested in making this a priority.  Thank You.

I was a little disappointed that there was not a little more substance or more of a frame work as to how we are going to proceed, but what was clear is that they are inviting us to use the letter system to propose our ideas.

It really does not get better than this where you raise a question or problem and the response is that they are looking for out input to fix it.

I know the timing is not the best, many of us are getting ready for the Runoffs or the NASA champs, but if we want changes in 2017, we need to take the time to put it in a letter to the CRB.

In this thread many of you took the time to put down some good ideas, I am going to ask you to take a few moments and send a letter, even if its a cut and paste, its worthwhile to do it.

This is the link.

Yes, I'm aware Sloe stopped/waited a full lap for punt McDermid. I'm also aware something occurred shortly after the green flag between these two. Intentional and he received due justice.
