Thus all the parroty arguments, Keith! ;)

Sorry if I misread your post, Ron. This business of "let's all race at the weight I can make, who cares about anybody else?!" has been a sore spot with me for many years.

To go back many posts, let me ask again: can anyone post the drag coefficients and frontal areas that were used for aero calculations? Apparently it was thought to be a big enough influence to be worth including, so I'm curious which models are favored and by how much.

You were still racing at 2275 Jim, I have to assume. Sorry if your heavy, but, do you think think that your the average driver build.

I think we did more to allow the heavier drivers in the 99, at the expense of the 1.6 car having to gain weight. All the work many did to get there car to the proper weight went by the wayside.

No, you still benefit from being able to place ballast where it can be most helpful.

I believe 2400 for the 99+ cars is the right call since many/most were built based on 2450 and will have a tough time getting down to 2400 anyway. (What's that? An inherent disadvantage for the '99's being overlooked by the "1.6 is f*cked" crowd? Oh noes.)

The higher weights allow more people to race at or near spec weight. Hence, larger fields. Isn't that what someone said they wanted on page 1 of the parroty (sic) thread?

When ever the subject of physical fitness come up in conversation I'm always proud to make reference to car racers as some of the most fit athletes that exist.

For some of you that are so adamant about all the wide bodies/tall bodies/whatever bodies fititng within the rules of Spec Miata know that the SCCA classing rule includes a 180 pound driver as the normal driver weight. Right or wrong, that's the rule. :o < Jim (opp's the Clown), this has been a sore spot to some people that do something about making the 1.6 weight at 2275 pounds.

The only mention of 180 pounds I found in the GCR is with regard to IT roll cage tubing sizes. Is there any requirement that SMAC/CRB/BoD only account for 180 pounds or can they - shriek - take into account real world factors?

Sorry if I misread your post, Ron. This business of "let's all race at the weight I can make, who cares about anybody else?!" has been a sore spot with me for many years.

The only people who are asking to race at the weight they can make are the heavier people. All the lighter racers already have (a lot of) ballast. The question is what is a reasonable target weight that will encompass the majority (95th percentile?) of drivers? If I wanted to I could race my car at 2180. I'm sure there are others who could be much lighter since I'm 6'2". You'd not be happy if "we" truly started pushing the "weight we could make". :P

I'd love to go rock climbing, it just can't happen

The idea wasn't that everyone take up rock climbing. It was to illustrate that there are more activities than just hitting the gym or running etc. Some of which people who traditionally don't like "exercise" may not have considered.

I do agree it gets to be a problem when small statured guys for instance, tell me they have more ballast on their passenger floorboard than they put in their seat.

I know better than to not agree with the owner of this site, BUT the normal SCCA driver classing weight of 180 pounds is open information to ANYONE that calls SCCA Topeka, KS.
