Sorry if I misread your post, Ron. This business of "let's all race at the weight I can make, who cares about anybody else?!" has been a sore spot with me for many years.
No, you still benefit from being able to place ballast where it can be most helpful. All the work many did to get there car to the proper weight went by the wayside.

The only mention of 180 pounds I found in the GCR is with regard to IT roll cage tubing sizes. Is there any requirement that SMAC/CRB/BoD only account for 180 pounds or can they - shriek - take into account real world factors?... bodies fititng within the rules of Spec Miata know that the SCCA classing rule includes a 180 pound driver as the normal driver weight. Right or wrong, that's the rule.

The only people who are asking to race at the weight they can make are the heavier people. All the lighter racers already have (a lot of) ballast. The question is what is a reasonable target weight that will encompass the majority (95th percentile?) of drivers? If I wanted to I could race my car at 2180. I'm sure there are others who could be much lighter since I'm 6'2". You'd not be happy if "we" truly started pushing the "weight we could make".
The idea wasn't that everyone take up rock climbing. It was to illustrate that there are more activities than just hitting the gym or running etc. Some of which people who traditionally don't like "exercise" may not have considered.

that is b/c there is no such "rule"..
Are you non compliant and DQ at 185? Or is there +/- 40 tolerance so you compliant up to 224.9? Is that with gear or just driver in his/her speedos?
I know better than to not agree with the owner of this site, BUT the normal SCCA driver classing weight of 180 pounds is open information to ANYONE that calls SCCA Topeka, KS.
