I don't want to get too far ahead of announcements that the club will make, but as we consider our budgets and events for next year, it might be worth considering running a Majors schedule if you are a national competitor. That schedule will take you out of your home region, as the Majors are organized into four Conferences: Eastern, Mid-States, Northern, Western.
There will be five to seven Major events per Conference, with the intent of bringing more top competitors together to create a more prestigous racing series within SCCA. The BFGoodrich SuperTour will intersect with the Majors, as will special events, according to the SCCA. Publicity and live timing will support the series.
For us, our calendar will require a few longer tows with the hope of finding strong competition and the chance to battle for the Conference title. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing some new tracks and defending our "home" tracks.
For those un-interested in a bigger fuel bills, regional and some national competition will still happen at nearby tracks. To offset the tow expense, I did request that SCCA consider a "Majors Pass" so entrants can pay one annual entry fee and access all Majors events. If implemented, the entry fee savings could encourage people to tow farther and see some marquee or "bucket list" tracks. This could improve car counts for the series.
Here is a link to the fact sheet that SCCA made available during the Run-Offs.

SCCA needs to simply put out the who, what, when and where. Who is eligible (National drivers?), what (awards, prizes, money, contingencies, etc.), when and where (Conference schedules). Finally, will there be a separate Runoff for Major competitors as part of the 50th Anniversary?

I am warming up to the idea of a Majors program . . . but SCCA has got to get a better writer to describe the program. Everything I have read about the Majors program sounds like it was written by a lawyer - who flunked legal writing - and who is trying to make the program hard to understand.

The Super Tours are no brainers for entries, the contingency for tires is excellent. The contingency for Majors , oh yeah champaign celebration and victory lap for winner. Super Tour comes to your back yard, Majors requires some Major travel, HPR (2000+) miles, Hallett (1000+) miles round trip. I played along and went to 8 of the 14 races. For my 3rd place series efforts I recieved "0".
Wonder if SCCA thinks I will travel 3000+ extra miles in 2013?

That's exactly what I was thinking while I was reading that site. There's also no schedule to speak of.

A Divisional champion for National drivers
A super tour champion for National drivers
Several Major champions for National drivers
A National points champion for National drivers
And a Runoffs Champion for National drivers
And all this times 29 National classes and who knows how many Regional classes?
All this does is dilute the Runoffs to just another championship, ho hum
Seriously, I don't think this will make any difference in which races my customers attend.
