Cannot claim to be as fast as Blake, but my process is simple

I have 3 computers (1 xPC and 2 laptops) with a total of 5 monitors set up on my desk, each monitor has 2 browser windows open sharing the screen. the 10 browsers open are Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari all running at the same time. They are all auto refreshing every second. Problem is I have to visually scan for changes. Would love someone way cleverer than I to have an alarm sound the minute a change in the browser content is detected.

I gave up on using the iPad even as even with the Bluetooth keypad, the lag is evident.

maybe we can have a webinar on speed registration on DLB? I think I am going to register for every event i can during the next few days and fine tune my skills. Perhaps set up some hot keys on my screen for name, address, phone, cc#, etc. :)

OK, what is the over/under to get to 85 in Sm on this new registration link? I am saying it will be full in less than 25 minutes?

Jim

25 minutes? You really think it would take that long? I'll take the under for sure.
Seriously. The powers that be need to just re-think everything at this point, including the registration cap vs. what's outlined in the GCR.

You know there is a way around this - the overflow SM's can populate group 1 and have their own race. Or we could all agree to split into two groups ahead of time and run Groups 1 & 2. Maybe split up the teammates so there's no discussion about unfair advantages in the draft. Or split based on practice times, where the slowest half run group 1, and the fastest half run group 2.

I actually already suggested this type of scenario to some folks in Southwest Division. As a "club" we can do these type of things if we all agree that's what we want. What if we all said- "we're not coming if we can't get two groups". I know that's extreme but collectively we (SM racers) are driving the bus and should have a big say in how things are done. I like the idea of splitting up based on practice times not fastest "registration times".

Not a business --> a club

Not employees --> volunteers

You could always enter the race the other sanctioning body is holding at COTA.

Favorite t-shirt I saw worn by a SCCA worker "DFWMIVFTS"

Club- for the enjoyment of all, not for the joy of making people jump through hoops.... see this thread for example

Volunteer- not a free license to give the other members surly comments, half hearted efforts at adjudicating rules or running events. I am tired of the volunteer excuse they are still responsible for their actions and behavior.

The other sanctioning body will never get a chance to hold a race at COTA if this keeps going the direction it is headed and neither will the SCCA.

I'm not saying everyone at the SCCA is a sour puss that makes me cringe but there sure are too many for the club to thrive in the future. Don't believe me check the bank accounts of several regions that are going broke.

You missed something:

4.4.6. Refusing an Entry
Even if an entry meets all the requirements outlined in 4.4.1., above, the
organizers have the right to refuse an entry without giving a reason. If an
entry is refused, notification must be sent to the entrant or driver at the
address on the Entry Form as soon as possible, and normally at least 5
days before the event.

Ding texas stands alone on having all day practice, other parts of the country don't have practice at all sans hardship practice.

I guess my reading is fundamental:

6.4.1 General
A. 1 car in a class shall constitute a class. A car may not compete in
more than one race class in the same race group.
B. Number of Cars allowed on Course
A maximum of 25 cars per mile may be on the course or started
simultaneously in any type of session.
The Division’s Executive Steward may increase or decrease the 25
car limitation for any or all race groups I assume that waiving this would be problematic at COTA (understandable politics).

Further, the GCR lays out how to handle qualifying for oversubscribed classes. It does not say anything about 85 cars, nor how to handle (other than not meeting 120% rule) how oversubscribed class is handled. Unless I am missing something:

E. Each driver/car combination must qualify within 120% of the qualifying
time of the fastest qualifier in his class to be allowed to start
his race. The Chief Steward may waive this requirement and may
allow non-qualifiers to grid behind qualifiers

6.4.3. Qualifying for Oversubscribed Classes
When the number of cars entered into a single class race group exceeds
the maximum number of cars per mile, the following qualifying procedures
apply:
A. The class is split into 2 qualifying groups.
B. The grid is determined according to 6.4.2.
C. Alternatively, if the Chief Steward determines that track conditions
are significantly different for the 2 groups, he may recommend the
parallel column procedure in which one half of the race grid is taken
from each session, and gridded in columns by group, by time. The
fastest car is assigned the inside position on the front row and he
is followed in that column by the cars from his session in qualifying
time order. The SOM must approve this alternate procedure.

I think the powers that be should think about this for a sec....If we spec miata guys decided to boycott this event where would the region be??? I would say $30,000 in the hole! I'm not saying that this will happen as to many people want to drive the track which is why I'm sure a lot of out of towners are willing to be treated like they don't matter. BUT in the future IF there is another event here I bet a lot of people would think twice about signing up if they have to deal with officials that don't give a crap about them. Lets all come together and make a sensible decision not just about registration but about the safety of the competitors for qualifying. 15 min is absolutely NUTS and rediculous and I'm sure I speak for 99% of everyone on here as I have received several phone calls asking me if I knew what the heck these officials are thinking. This brings back a memory from two years ago when we were all at TWS and spec miata qualified in the morning but for some reason the other two groups couldn't qualify on time due to thunderstorms so they were going to throw out all our perfectly good times! FOR NO REASON! What did we do as a spec miata community.... WE ROSE UP AND STOOD OUR GROUND and we ended getting our way cause there was an overall majority overrule of the officials and that was with only 30 people! Imagine the influence 85 racers can have if we all come up with a unanimous solution to these issues!

You are getting old, that was just last March. The way I remember it, we all sat still like scared little wabbits until Chris Haldeman got on a chair and told the race director (%$#%$^$%#^$#^$#) and then we all started shouting with him. Up to that point the officials gathered together made an absurd decision and never once talked to any of the racers about what options might be available. I hate to say this because I sound like a broken record but NASA has this right also. A representative of each class is appointed/elected (not sure which) to speak to the racers and acts as the voice of the racers. He/she also sets the tone for the run group by holding a pre-race meeting of the class before every race. For this race at a minimum we need some liason to communicate our concerns and desires to the SCCA/Race Chair. Lee has been trying to fill this role but I am not sure he is being heard.

Maybe we are acting a little like spoiled kids here? I am as disappointed as is everyone else. But the bottom line is a mistake was made. Thought was given, the best and most fair way to rectify the situation is to start registration over. If any of us were on the outside looking in without that link, we would likely feel the same way? So as of right now, our big inconvenience is we have to re register. Big deal! Yeah, kind of a pain, but in the big scheme of things, it is a minor road bump. If it is me on the wait list after heat two, so be it. If it is fair for all, I am fine with it. Some of you are acting like someone took your first born child. Let's try not to over react here. Lets just get through and move on.
