A used Playboy Cup car just sold for $21,500 on racing junk.  I know the seller and buyer.  You can sell the the shocks on the car for $3500 and buy SM5 shocks (complete kit) $1,800 and a new Hardtop for $2200, less if you can find a used Hardtop.  So all in at $22,000.  Like SM we have done some for less than that and some for more.  Our least expensive SM5 to date was $18,000 and our most expensive is just north of $50k, but some of the guys in the NE get that for a "pro" SM build.  All 8 of the MEATHEAD Racing SM5's have dyno'd within 3 hp and unlike SM we don't have a Dyno set of wheels and tires yet so we are REALLY happy with that.

Sealed motor $3,500

Spec EVERYTHING Except:

Seat

Seat Belts

Steering Wheel

Fire System

Cage

Tire (and that will change eventually)

Data

Brake pads

All drive-train and performance parts ARE SPEC.  Personal items are free.

You can buy my SM5 for $30K.  It's as fast as they get, very well sorted.  Routinely embarrass ITR and T3 cars with it.  It's in T4 trim right now for the runoffs but I will gladly swap it back after RA if you send a check.

So........... are we done with this now? Everybody get a chance to make their case for the parity adjustments they want for their car?

Two engineering students are walking on campus. One turns to the other and says where did you get such a nice bicycle? The one says I was walking the other day when this beautiful woman rides up, jumps off her bike, takes off all her clothes and tells me to take whatever I want. The second engineer says, good choice, the clothes wouldn't have fit anyway.

From the left coast talk they have large numbers of 1.6's. Yet they are today staying out of this thread.  :noidea:

We're too busy at tracks actually racing our cars, doing well, and having fun.   Tilting at windmills didn't work at La Mancha, and probably won't work here either.

So a new build top of the line 99 is going to be 35K to 40 K, and there saying a 1.6 is more expensive to make fast.  How much for that 50K  :)

Bench  I swore I wouldn't but I am taking the bait.  My son just entered the runoffs.  I think next year at MRLS it will be interesting to see which car is better.  MRLS with some fast corners and some slow corners, a hard pull out of second gear down the front straight and a fast  4th gear corner that leads up the big hill the corkscrew. MRLS has a very low top speed overall  110-112mph  the 1.6 has a good chance.  At Road America and Daytona, the 99's and 01's will rule the roost.

That is why we will be running a 99 in spec miata out of the OPM tent.  My kid should be able to give analysis of the differences from his perspective.  He will be a rookie at the runoffs so has a tough hill to climb but we made the choice to give him the best possible chance and 1.6 is not it for the type of track that Road America is.

The good thing about the parity thread is the thread keeps the site hits high. :twocents: The left coast 1.6 post was a comment, nothing more, nothing less.

Look forward to meeting you and your son. A guy I crewed with for a bunch of years when he had an 240 Z E prod car and for a couple years with his Miata F pro car which is now serviced under the OPM tent. Same guy had a Spec Miata which has been converted to an ITA car. Doing Midwestern Council (sports car org.) this weekend with his ITA car at RA and next weekend a SCCA double regional at RA with the F prod car for pre test to the Runoffs. He'll also do a test day pre Runoffs start. Even tho some of us mature folks don't drive so much any more, we continue to enjoy the prep, testing, racetrack stuff and most important the people.

What all do you need to do to make it T4?  I assume you could do a whole bunch of stuff, including ECU work, but what's the competitive minimum?

Keep an eye on some of those 1.6's from the Northwest who will be attacking Miller at the NASA championships. Not sure Miller is a 1.6 track, but if they do well, I suspect that bodes well for Laguna in 2014. Now if a certain young driver shows up in a black 1.6 next year, I'd have a hard time betting against him. He is tremendously talented and just recently destroyed a strong field at The Ridge.

Funny how so very few of the talented Northwest Miata racers jump onto this forum. Personally, I think they like the anonymity.

Stock exhaust manifold and mid-pipe with both cats.  Unsealed motor - showroom stock treatment to the motor, open ECU.  Otherwise the same as SM5,

Just so we are on the same page.. please watch the video below or the other two segments, just point to a minute marker on the video so that we can understand the problem. Just for reference.. My car is in this race ( runoffs P1) Berry is the black car (Runoffs P2), Sandlin is in the red car( runoffs P3 most of the race and generally accepted the fastest 99 in the country 2 years running)The other white 99 is a car we did a few years ago for Freedom, Tom Long driving.Save the commentary, just point to minute markers so we can all disect the issues.Pay to attention to the uphill sections up the front straight where the 1.6 is supposed to be weak. Disregard all the hand signals, no one knows what they mean :)

Jim,all I can say is that is one fast 1.6 ! Don't get me wrong he can drive and the car setup is awesome, but that car is a rocket. Look at the video at 7:30 ish. He crosses up not once not twice but three times and never looses a car length. And their was some help out of alot of corners from behind. Not disagreeing or arguing with anyone just pointing some things out.

Now don't get me wrong, he never lifted but the three cross ups should have dropped him back at least 1or 1 1/2 car lengths IMO !

The carousel is one of the corners where the 1.6 is stronger than the 99. The Mazda comp diff is superior to the Torsen in these types of turns as cars load up so heavily on the outside wheels. Long high g turns favor the 1.6 eve more than tight twisty turns.
