Hi there from Australia,

Like most countries around the world Australia has a huge MX5 (Miata) racing community. From Club racing to endurance, Hill Climbs and circuit racing.

My Club (Mazda MX5 Club Victoria) runs an annual Sprint Championship (Track days) over 9-10 rounds and always have 30 or more MX5's competing. We are lucky enough to run at some great tracks, most also used by our local (and now International) V8 Supercar Championship.

We have watched the Spec Miata class develop and would really love to have something similar here in Australia. We have also enjoyed seeing the coverage of the Thunderhill 25 event which looks tp be an awesome experience. Our Club competes in a local endurance event, albeit only over 6 Hrs, but again with a huge variety of cars competing. Over the past 3-4 years, we have always had 2 of our teams in the Top 10 and the last two years one of our team has won the event against teams of BMW's, Lotus, and MINI.

We have some guys that are keen to look at coming out to the U.S. to 'do' the Thunderhill 25 and would like to hear of any Spec Miata teams that may offer 'Arrive and Drive' deals in a team.

I was not sure where to start to make contact so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated....

Thanks,

Tim

Welcome Tim,

Could you post some video of your races, (you/team) we've had some posers here lately.

But long story short, there's a number of people here that could put a team together for you and your friends.

Spec Miata, Performance Touring Miata, MX5, maybe a mustang.

NASA's the club, we can give you the links.

If you have the time and $, they're here for you.

Maybe some here would like the reverse for some of your cool tracks.

J~

Hi Tim and Welcome as well,

My name is Kyle, and I have miata endurance arrive and drive cars to offer for the 25 hour race, as well as Spec Miata.  I own Sector Purple Racing, and have been renting/ building/ supporting miatas - and many other kinds of cars, for years.

I too would love to see some videos of your team and its competing.

I am just returning tonight from Texas where one of the highest speed tracks around had an 8 hour enduro into darkness, in which we fielded 2 entries. It was our first time there, but what a great track.  .It is hard to find enduros that offer any night driving practice like the 25 hour requires.  There are only about 4 or 5 annually.

You are picking a great time to inquire about Thunderhill, as they look to have their addition open this year for the race - expanding the track to 5 miles.

We have competed with one or two team entries now for 7 of the 10 years or so that the 25hour race has existed.  Last year (2013), we won our class ( ) after many years of top 10's.   In the 2012 race, we had an arrive and drive team who were all Camaro/Mustang challenge class racers take 2nd in their supported rental miata.

PM me for more info, but what you're asking for is what we do!

Thanks,

Kyle Watkins

Sector Purple Racing.

BTW, no right hand drive cars allowed here in these miata classes, so you will have to shift with your right hand!

Thanks for the speedy response, and sure I'd love to send some footage of our events, and yes i 'get' the fact that there are plenty of 'FIGJAMS' (F*$# I'm good, Just Ask Me) around in Motorsport!

I personally have raced all sort of stuff for 20 years and only in the last 4 discovered the joys of racing an MX5 in club Motorsport. We have a great club culture and run 'Track Training' days for newcomers at which i am one of the instructors. A lot of our regular competitors have come from Motorsport backgrounds having raced in various classes.

It's great to have opened the communications lines and i'll keep in touch...

Daniel Deckers (Deckspeed in New South Wales) and Michael Hall came over to race with us at the 25hrs a few years ago. I think they are planning to do it again this year, and they will need other drivers so you may want to talk to them. The team I drive with at the 25, Atlanta Motorsports Group, campaigns a fleet of MX-5's, and they will be in one of them. The team has won the event several times.

Here's the team video:

Let me know if I can help.
