A little race recap in the meantime. Someone made a comment about a clean race...was anything but! a lot of body slams, push to passes and contact of all types! 2 identical crashes happened at the 2nd apex of turn 2...one between Mike Collins and a local Mike LaBouff and the 2nd between Jim Drago and Joey Jordon. Collins and Jordon ended up off track stuck in the gravel. At some point another car was off at 9 very close to the track. In a regional event all would have brought out the double yellow(2 was my prediction)...but I guess SCCA chose to have the drivers get out of their cars and get behind the wall so they would have a great view of the rest of the race  :wacko:

 

The start of the race was horrible in my opinion. Not sure if there was an early flag or a rolling start by the front row...but from about row 6-7 back everyone came through turn 11 at speed and never lifted trying to catch up! Huge gaps everywhere  :no: At least this is what it looked like from my vantage point. As the pack gathered in turn 2 for a little 4 wide line dancing  and ping pong tournament...some found dirt doesnt have quit the grip as pavement! Charlie Hayes got hung out to dry and lost his mirror getting back on track. Not sure if he had contact during turn 2 or sometime later but on lap 3 or 4 he dropped wheel out of 4 and the car hooked on him sending him into the tires drivers right...he drove it to 5 and got off track.

 

After a few laps the field split into a bunch of 4-8 car battles it seemed. Great watching people battle for 1st in their own group!

About the racing...is it considered "ok" for drivers to use part of pit road to make a pass?

Usually yes... As long as you pass on the outside away from the out stalls. Have seen it done.

In other random thought news......wonder if the outcome of this will be a single engine source for the class? SM gen 3? Yes I was drinking, but not that much.

No aluminum in the bowl area (other than that specified for the plunge cut) or the ports may be removed, added, or manipulated for any reason. It is understood that heads may look slightly different from bowl to bowl due to casting irregularities. No material may be removed or added from the short turn radius in the port.

The rule protested as put up by Danny. The post Ken made very public over 2 months ago. 
Many have complained about how the protest was done...secretly without a heads up to all. The CR protest in Florida also came as a surprise to many.
But how the whistler reads CR low with VC on had been mention here dozens of times.

I took it up the ladder to National anyways and they told me to follow those cars and learn something about how to drive faster.

I'm confused and betting that there's a whole lot more to the discussion between Will and Mike.  What is baffling to me is that a competitor gets to agree/disagree to being protested.  I'll have to admit that I didn't crack the GCR this year, but that's definitely a new one to me  :noidea:
