Entry list doesn't show a #72. With all the talk about cracking down on contact, I sincerely hope some penalties were assessed.

Tech at the Runoffs compared the questionable bump stop rubber rough cut off end to the known FatCat bump stop rubber smooth cut off end and DQ'ed the bump stop with the rough cut off end. Performance difference, zip, nada, nothing. BUT, we do have rules, Riiight. By rule, compare questionable part to known legal part.
So if the rough end became a smooth end then no one could tell the difference?
FWIW I Gorilla Glued my bump stops to the shock hats where they have remained for numerous season, so to tech them they would have to be pried loose (not that I need to worry as I don't do Majors). But perhaps others glue their bump stops too? Then what? And suppose you roughed up the end so the glue would better adhere.
Sounds like a waste of tech's time to me.
What on earth did I just watch! I thought the jumped start was pretty bad and then it looks like he just intentionally pit manuevered the guy into the wall!?!?!?
Don't know if the green had been waived/radios when green car passed, BUT looked like double yellow right hand side corner station after pass. Should have been a sit down after punt.
D. Racing begins and passing may occur throughout the field when the green flag is displayed.
John W., sorry for your deal, did the car which moved you off course get a sit down.

The yellow light was also the left side of track just before bridge. It was NOT green when he took off

FYI, the "designated incident investigation site" is a recommended item for 2019 not 2018

All that for 28th position? What about the guy who got punted? Car looked totaled to me
If you don't like it either, send an e mail to Mike Cobb and his exec assist. with a link to the video.. How can you have fun on track when that kind of BS is going on?

He was allowed to start race #2, not sure what came of the investigation.

That's a punishment? He was DQ from race 1, he should of been DQ for race 2 also.......On top of that he was allowed to keep his qualifying times and started in a higher position in race 2..... He gridded next to me so I was a bit worried.

I would have expected a much harsher penalty. The other competitors car was destroyed and lucky not to be hurt. Instances like this moving forward need to be met with harsh penalties such as suspension, not dq and probation which is really not much of a penalty at all.
I know this driver, I like this driver. He made a mistake and my intention is not to single him or anyone out. But as a class we need to do better and things like this need to be dealt with more harshly or they will continue. If I was sitting home sore with a totalled race car and the person that did it to me received a dq and probation I would be pissed, really pissed

I've posted a tech update and some reminders in the SMAC section.
Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

Another item that is concerning is look how far apart the cars are.....they are all trying to build a gap to get a run??

I agree with that, the GCR spells out the start procedure..all cars have to be grouped and well bunched. This business of hanging back on the back straight to get a run at the start is really really dangerous...especially in the mid or back pack. The guys at the front mostly know each other and presumably have some degree of communication on/off track and I think that really should be left alone to figure it out for themselves..anything in mid or lower pack should be looked at with a lot of scrutiny with a high degree of sportsmanship expected. To me, based on that video I question how much the SCCA has my back as a competitor if there is only a DQ for that race. Put another way, how much can I get away with if I decide I'm OK with my car being part of a demolition derby.
Was there a pace car or did he/she pull off under/around the bridge ?

When I kart raced a fellow racer I got along with well that resulted in kart cartwheeling across the track. Luckily no one was hurt. He thought the accident "just happened". I remember telling him the accident happened from him making a dumb decision. I also pointed out that everyone has made a dumb decision at some point on the track. The important thing is to learn from the dumb decision. I agree it is not about singling a person out. Suspension can help make sure someone both recognizes and learns from dumb decisions.

Bench Racer, the car that got into me was pushed into me by another car, that was hit from behind. It was purely a racing incident, so he didn't deserve a sit down. I never met him throughout the weekend, or saw his car after the race, but would expect that his car was crunched on both sides from being the meat in the Spec Miata Sandwich. It's all good, car damage is a risk we take every time we go to the track. I should know the ultimate fate of my car in a few weeks time I hope.
