Setting Diff Backlash and Preload

Posted by FTodaro , 12-23-2015 - * * * * * · 15,194 views

I bought the tools years ago and never jumped into learning how to Lash a diff and set the preload on the carrier bearings. This is not a full blown rebuild. I did not change the Pinion bearings. I simply swapped out an open diff and put a Torsen unit in it. So I reused the all the bearings and the original ring and pinion.
I will endeavor to do the entir...

VVT Completed

Posted by FTodaro , 12-15-2015 - - - - - - · 4,139 views

I installed the drivetrain. For me doing the motor diff and transmission is pretty straight forward. Once I have the weight in the car, I added my ballast and tightened down the suspension, at the bushings so not to have any bind.

The car is done but for getting the wrap done and an alignment. Car runs fine and all electrical is working. The only part on...

Differential Prep-Torsen

Posted by FTodaro , 12-02-2015 - - - - - - · 4,042 views

I wish I could start out this section of the blog discussing how to lash a Diff. I have bought all the tools and studied up on doing it, I am just to chicken to venture out on the limb and use my car as the test case. So I have sent the Torsen out to be lashed and install new bearings if needed. I also purchased a new Torsen unit (the piece that attached...

Seat Install- Sparco Circuit Pro

Posted by FTodaro , 11-29-2015 - * * * * * · 6,126 views

The Sparco Circuit Pro is the larger of the two composite seat offerings between the Circuit and the Circuit pro. The Circuit Pro has lots of room. I noticed when shopping for seats that they do come in all shapes and sizes, there is no standard size. Not only is the seat (butt pad) and the back area different so is the size of the halo area. The Halo are...

Suspension Install- Front control arms- offset bushings

Posted by FTodaro , 11-28-2015 - * * * * * · 3,705 views

Installing the front upper offset bushings, normally requires you to replace the boot around the upper ball-joint as you ruin it in the removal process. I first press in the new bushings. I use the white line bushings and have had good luck with them.

After installing the bushing, I next tack weld the top of the upper ball-joint to the control arm. If yo...

Suspension Install- hanging control arms, rear bearings replace

Posted by FTodaro , 11-27-2015 - - - - - - · 4,079 views

I am going to cover several aspects of the build but will take some things out of order, mostly due to waiting on parts to arrive.

Today I started on hanging the suspension. The 2001 had the big brake kit so the rotors and the calipers will have to be swapped out. Starting in the rear, I wanted to replace all the alignment bolts. At this point I want to...

VVT security module, modify heater core box and final dash install

Posted by FTodaro , 11-17-2015 - - - - - - · 4,050 views

Now that i have the 4 sections of the harness installed in the car. I am ready to install the dash. If your roll cage has a center front bar, you heater core box will not fit under the bar so you will have to modify it. I could not use my old one as it took a hit during my crash so I had to start over.

I cut the top of the box off with an air saw and tap...

Wiring is work

Posted by FTodaro , 11-09-2015 - * * * * * · 3,924 views

I just about have the main Harness out of the car. Sadly the crush damage from the wreck has created a pinch point, so I cannot get the last plug of the harness out. I will have to cut this bar in the cage. I have sold the cage but this should not be deal breaker.

The main harness is almost out. this is the first time i have attempted a harness.

The...

November 5, 2015

I am going to post some pictures along the way of my new VVT build. I started this project before I decided to do the blog so i will not have pictures of some of the early steps in the process. I had a prior VVT that was wrecked so I am working this project with the cars side by side, swapping from old to the new car.

This is a winter p...
