Back to a comment you made earlier relevant to this thread...

If 2 lcars are traveling at the same speed and both hit the rev-limiter at the same time.. how can either gain speed?

I'd say they can't. A well timed thump just before hitting the limiter might push one over briefly but that's about it, I think the limiter is just too hard to continue accelerating at that speed even drafting.

At a true 7000 RPM they should be able to hit 135.5 - 136.5 plus some small amount for tire growth, so the trap speeds don't seem unreasonable. An extra100 RPM would add about 2 mph and it would not be surprising to find stock ECUs with that much variance. Though so far I have ever only seen lower, not higher, than rated, I haven't tested very many, and fewer NBs.

For the sub-frames. Had a  good chuckle when he was at Road America. Know his business, met his father years ago at Mid Ohio Runoffs.

Cottrell will be back under the Atlanta Speedwerks tent this evening for qualifying. He had some things back home to attend to.

Charbs is on medical leave.

Carbonell is in another car.

Goring started Q1 but had a mechanical on the out lap.

Spencer Patterson just arrived today. Coached him up on the track this morning. First laps ever tonight.

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

FWIW I was looking through the data on one of our 1.6's with a stock ECU from a 6 hour enduro checking for an overrev, so lots of laps.  99.9% of the time the data (Race Technoloy DL1 samping at 100 Hz) showed between upper 7100 and lower 7200 but I did catch a few (like < 3) times where it logged as high as 7400.  No video to correlate, but pretty sure it wasn't due to a bump, may or may not have been in the draft while getting lapped by E0 etc. cars. YMMV.

Better to find out now.

BTW what is the deal with the requirement of the two gaskets on the restrictor? never heard of that requirement, its not stock and the rules do not require it. Do we all need to do this now?

Do I think it's a good idea to make a the oldest car in the class the car to have? Absolutely not.

I have not been involved in any meeting with the SMAC, NASA or even Mazda directly where anyone has given any serious consideration to make the 1.6L an overdog.  The SMAC specifically is working very hard to give the 1.6L a litle bit of help at the lowest cost and aggravation to the SM community.  The only time I hear about making the 1.6L an overdog is on internet forums from NB guys who are paranoid that the 1.6L might be competitive again.

Which side of the restrictor plate do you place your gasket? What is the function of a gasket?

Can we please keep the 1.6 bullshit in the 1.6 thread. Who cares about that when there is a great event going on in Daytona there will be plenty of time to bicker about parity after the runnoffs.
